Why is skin raised around the edge of a pitted acne scar?

Hi guys,

I'm new here, and just have a quick question. I have a few mild indented scars on my face, but around the edges of a couple of them, the skin is raised up a bit. This, of course, makes the scar look deeper than it is. The raised skin can be seen when I'm examining my skin 2 inches from the mirror (if you know what I mean). UGH.

I'm not trying to complain or sound flip about a few mild scars when there are people with more severe scarring, but they do bother me. I think about them all the time (which side of someone should I sit on)....oh good, going through a drive-thru (my better side). Know what I mean?

So back to my question....does anyone know what that raised skin is all about, and is there anything that will help correct it? And by the way, my scars are not new. They are about 7-8 years old. Thanks in advance!
