For those of you thinking about medical allergy tests... they dont work.

Recommended Posts

I accompanied my friend to some allergy tests. She's had TERRIBLE cramping for 5 years.

It seems like lot of foods set her off. We know now that if she has dairy, she gets cramps the next day that are TERRIBLE. The same thing with peanuts.

She had professional allergy tests performed at a really nice allergy facility. They did the "prick tests"... scratching your skin with about two dozen foods in 24 different locations. Its one of the official ways to have allergy tests performed.

She was testsed for every common allergin, including dairy and peanuts. However, the tests said that she wasnt allergic to anything. At the end of all these tests, the doctors said, "Well, sometimes they work and sometimes they dont. If you definitely know that you are allergic to peanuts and milk, stay way from those foods."

Thanks for telling us that AFTER the tests! The bill for the allergy test was $700. $25 if you have insurance.

At the end, my friend still doesnt know what other foods cause her cramps and has been advised to find it out herself through the "elimination" diet. =P

700$ dollars

what the hell

You can have a food allergy test checking Igg (hypersensitivities) and IgE (real allergies) for around 100 different foods using a blood sample for less than 300$. You send it in the mall.

And yes, they say the skin tests are not accurate

Too bad it's too late lol

A TAPEWORM???? Seriously!! I eat SOOOOO much!! Healthy... but ALOT... I mean I eat massive amounts of seeds and nuts, olive oil all the good fat... i eat a good amount of meat... and veggies and I JUST DONT UNDERTSTAND WHY I CANT GAIN WEIGHT!! I seirously think I have tapeworm or something. I am wondering if I can get tested for that... This is insane... and annoying.... I know I will never be a big girl because of my family history but seriously I NEED to gain weight. I know I complain abotu this alot haha I'm sorry... but I'm just so annoyed by it...

I think that the doctor must have completely sucked. Most doctors are not going to say that, or they will refer you to another doctor to get the shit figured out.
