Vitamin C serum while on Accutane?

Recommended Posts

I'm on month 3 of 60mg/day Accutane. I am not using any topicals beyond a thick night cream (CeraVe) and daily moisturizer. However, I had some recent damage to my skin before going on tane from small whiteheads that have left small red blotches. I am considering ordering the following vitamin C serum: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vitamin-C-Serum-Ester-...bayphotohosting

Would probably use nightly or every other night in problem areas to see if I might help the healing process along a little bit. I'm taking a vitamin C supplement (500mg) every day along with omega 3's, but nothing else (especially not vitamin A). I may add vitamin E into this regimen along with the topical vitamin C serum.

Anybody w/ Accutane experience see anything potentially hazardous about using this "Ester-C" serum?

I don't know much about ester c but I use Vitamin C L-ascorbic acid every other night for skincare together with lactobionic serum which moisturise and gently exfoliate my skin really well.

I believe topical vitamin c (L-ascorbic acid only, the skin can't absorb any other form...) at 20% really helps improve collagen production in my skin... i had a wierd spot like thign form a few weeks ago and leave a relatively large indent, so i applied the 20% vitamin c syrum about 3-4 times a day, and it has now pretty much completely filled in....

However topical vitamin c syrum often breaks people out so keep an eye out for that...

Don't add vitamin E, it is fat soluble and your liver is working hard enough as it is!!

Ya, do not use pure Vitamin E products or C+E products as acneic and oily skin are not suitable to use that as it make your skin even oily.

Don't ingest vitamin E supplements? I've had derms tell me that vitamin E is great while on tane.

I'll keep an eye out for an L-ascorbic acid lotion. Not sure where to find one, though. I don't trust this ebay stuff.

most derms don't know everything, what with it being your third round i personally wouldn't take any fat soluble vitamins... but there you go.

In past conversations with my derms I've never placed much emphasis on Vitamin E and Accutane, but have only been recommended that I take it when I've asked what supplements I should take (if any). I'll be more specific about vitamin E on my next visit and will even bring up your point about it being fat soluble and will see what he says. I'm only taking 200iu/day, so I'll continue to take it until then.
