I've noticed many threads where people say they become clear, vanish away. They have so much potential to help many people but become spread apart in the midst of many other threads. They list exactly what they did and it's good advice. So I figured I would make a thread that will link to the threads in which people have had success. This way anyone who is interested has a variety of diets and regimens to try right from the get go, and also it lets people become aware that there is hope in holistic health and also other means in combination.

So if you do remember any threads, please link them here and I can start updating the first post and begin linking.

I don't have much right now, but this will build with time.

i don't have any specific threads, but if anyone wants to ask me anything, my acne has cleared up, but i stuck around.

Me too.

And for the record, my diet is not strict at all. I just do fewer bad things and more good things. I just want to mention that not everyone needs to eliminate everything, so don't be afraid to try diet changes. I don't miss anything I've given up or limited. My log with more details.

Here's my diet summed up in one sentence: Anti-inflammatory, nutrient dense, blood sugar stabilizing diet and supplements. That describes most meals and most days. I splurge a few times a week on favorite foods. The only thing I'm strict about is never drinking sugar. And avoiding the allergen that leads to cysts the next day, of course.

Also, I think you might want to find some Sweetjade threads, although i don't think she ever posted a 'here's what cleared me, you must try it' thread, just research.

I'm clear thanks to:

Fish Oil 2.5g/day

Paula's Choice Products - cleanser, toner, and SPF 15 moisturizer, and specifically Paula's BHA 2% at night and Alpha Hydrox brand AHA 12% during the day.

Glycolic facials every 6 weeks.

I tried the diet stuff, but my life is too crazy to stick with it right now. And my skin is 99% clear. I get the occasional whitehead now and then, usually right after I finish my period (I am on the Pill so i think the withdrawal from the hormones might be why) but that's about it.

I'm clear!

Although it should be noted, I did a round of Accutane 5 years ago and DID try every available prescription topical and pill available before then. Accutane cleared me for about 3 years, but my acne came back. Not cystic like before, but still pretty bad. Nonetheless, this is the regimen that has helped since then!

Much like Healthoid and casseipia have done,

If you are clear and did not make a thread on it, just write your regimen here and I will link to the individual post that you wrote in here, so it will in essence be the same in terms of format without making a thread (if you don't want to).

Or if you know anyone that is clear, you can write their regimen here on their behalf and I can write their username under 'user' but beside it 'written by __' which would you be you.

I have noticed a problem in this forum and that is that there is very little reason to take anyone's advice seriously. No one knows who to trust. Everyone has different ideas about what leads to clear skin and what doesn't.

But what are these ideas founded on? Do they work in the real world? Do these ideas actually lead to clear skin? How can you tell who is bullshitting you and who is actually trying to help you?

In the real world, there are people who have achieved clear skin using holistic methods and there are people who haven't. Those who haven't simply are not doing the right things, and those who have are.

So doesn't it make sense to learn from those who have achieved clear skin? And specifically, to learn from those who have clear proof in pictures that their skin is either completely clear or almost completely clear?

I think so and that is why I made this thread. This thread will be a compilation of people who have:

Posted clear pictures that their skin is either 100% clear or very close to it.Achieved those results using mainly holistic methods. If you have recently used Accutane, antibiotics or lots of topicals then you do not qualify.

If you would like your pictures and your regimen to appear below, simply reply to this thread and I will add them. If you know of any other people who have posted their pictures and their regimen and they qualify, please reply with their info and I will add them too. Also if you are a user below and would like me to modify your information, just let me know. Thanks!

(special thanks to NdnRomeo for this thread idea, this is a lot like his thread except you must have pictures to qualify for this one)

And on to the people who have achieved very clear skin using holistic methods:

Diet

- Avoiding fructose as much as possible! Including HFCS, and sugars that contain fructose, like sucrose (cane sugar) and honey. Also HFCS is in a LOT of foods, so you'll need to become an avid label reader, but I'm sure many of you already are.

- Avoiding sweet fruits for now so my liver can recover.

- My diet is primarily a whole food diet, so it's mostly meat and vegetables. I eat rice and potatoes mostly for starch. Avoiding potentially inflammatory foods like sugar, the main allergenic foods (dairy, wheat, citrus, nuts, etc) and hydrogenated oils. Butter is organic to avoid fat soluble toxins, and all vegetable oils are all organic and manually pressed, not chemically extracted with hexane.

Supplements

- 2000mg/day supplement of Taurine

- a b-complex 25 supplement (Taurine needs vitamin b-6 to work properly, and vitamin b-6 needs all the others b-vitamins to work properly. That's also why taking megadoses of single b-vitamins causes problems because it causes deficiencies in all the other b-vitamins, so make sure it has all the b vitamins in balanced amounts, but not too high levels.)

- 100mg b-2

No women with any befor and after pictures?

Sometimes I think women battle acne for longer periods of time then men.

But it's more sporadic, at least every woman I've ever known. clear. breakout. clear. breakout.

It's not constant, it kind of ebbs and flows. which makes it more frustrating, when you've had clear skin one month and massive pimples the next...

I think alot of women just don't let their picture be taken if they feel they look bad, plain and simple. I know I avoid cameras and even going to the store without makeup on...

I did take some before pics specifically for this site, they look horrible *shrug* but who care as long as I can eventually make my skin look great. Plus I want the visual satisfaction of beating the acne beast...So I can say, look at what I did, I am all powerful!! Really though, our skin can change so slowly that we don't even realize how far we have come... I will be keeping a journal so I don't lose hope and can see that slowly but SURELY I am making progress. Or so I hope!

i have managed to clear my skin by eating fruit, veggies, eggs, nuts, free range beef, sheep and chicken. but my skin remains oily, its so funny actually, because normally i will break out from the excess oil. anyone else on a grain and dairy free diet with similar problems. i'm definately not complaining, i'll rather have oily skin than acne. can it be the fruit, i eat about 5 pieces of fruit per day.

paleo helps a lot with preventing the blockage of pores (by promoting the natural shedding of the skin, i think).

i just wanna say i quit all medication from my derm 2 months ago. when i first went he prescribed me some kind of tetrasyl and differin- all went swimmingly until 7 weeks later when my face was it same old nodule self. then the dr gave me a different drug- minocycline- that one never worked at all. i am not spotty all over my face i just get nodules, i usually have about 2 on the go at any one time. its very frustrating. originally i did a half ass effort at having a good diet. but since my last failure with drugs i have been on a pretty strict diet and been exercising regularly.

this has had a great effect on my skin. i have one bad meal a week which is usually in the form of a chinese takeaway. i make sure i do some yoga afterwards to try aid the digestion as well as eat blueberries and drinking green tea.

my regime which has seemed to worked for the last 2 months has been drinking plenty of water, green tea, eating brazil nuts, lots of fish, vegetables and fruit. (pretty much a low GI diet!) pretty obvious but my skin feels so much better now i am not slapping on differin every night. it also is nice to not have to carry all the medications about with me when i stay with friends etc.

i simply only use warm water on my face followed by a splash of cold water to close the pours and i will very occassionally open up a green tea bag whack it in some water and use it as a toner.

for me the original sense of not thinking acne wasn't related to acne was due to my derm telling me so and also failing in my previous diet. i would eat healthy but in the afternoon have a coca cola or some maryland biscuits. its ridiculous now thinking about it that i did not try living healthier earlier in my life. i still get the occassional spot but now they are whiteheads and not the nodule things i used to get!

anyway i hope i have not babbled on- i just wanted to say how a new way of living has helped my face- i understand that for others their acne may be unrelated and they find this post highly frustrating and for that i'm sorry!

the only fear i have of posting on these boards is the ammount of abuse there seems to be on it. people replying sarcastically to posts or just telling people that certaing things are a 'cure' or dont work etc. i'm not like that i just am writing my experience.

peace

happy new year

Just got digital cam yesterday so i decided to take a quick pic to show people at acne.org the power of health knowledge on acne, complexion and hair. I didn't get a chance to get a haircut when this pic was taken so the pic a lil rough lol, nevertheless you will clearly be able to see the effects of diet and lifestyle changes. I do not use any hair or skin chemicals this is all from natural eating and lifestyle. I dont have any before pics but I use to suffer horrible acne. In a few days Ill be posting many more pics as well as pics of foods I eat, suppliments I take, and lifestyle activities that help. Add my threads to this clear skin club

soo here are my pictures

The first is from 1/29 (most of the noticable reds were nodular and painful) and second from this morning :) 2/1 (you can see a huge improvement in the color of the acne, it totally calmed down and they aren't cystic AT ALL now.

i did the Nicholas Perricone three day challenge

i did the following for 3 days straight and added supplements (fish oil, calcium magnesium zinc tablet, evening primrose oil, b6, b12, vitamin c with rose hips, and vitex) i didn't really wash my face- rinsed with water and then would add DMAE (about 10 drops) to a moisturizer and put that on my face- moisturizer being Jojoba oil.

the order written is the way i chronologically ate everything:

Breakfast:

upon wake, 8oz of water

2 egg omelet

1/2cup Oatmeal not instant

3inch slice of cantaloupe (or 1/4cup of blueberries)

8oz spring water with lemon (almost always had more)

Green or black tea

Lunch:

4oz grilled alaskan salmon (gilled with olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon)

2 cups of kale (it called for romaine) dressed with olive oil and lemon juice to taste

2inch slice of cantaloupe

more and more water

Snack:

apple

with yogurt

(i was getting a sweet tooth by 3rd day and had apple with sunflower seed butter)

water water water

Dinner:

4oz grilled alaskan salmon (gilled with olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon)

steamed vegetables (i mainly ate a frozen pack of broccoli, green beans, red bell peppers)

2 inch slice of cantaloupe

water water water

Snack:

i would just do more veggies, cantaloupe, and apple etc more water...

i ran out of money to buy groceries hahaa... i get paid today.

I was so pleased and excited for my rapid results 3 DAYS dudes!

I can't really post pics anymore... My skin is clear now... And I feel great!

But if anyone wants to try to believe me, I will say that FOR ME (With bold letters), eating 4-5 fruits a day, drinking 8 glasses of water, and sleeping good improved my acne... But that's just me...

I think it also improved my whole body too... After eating like this, 3 days later I noticed I could do more reps in my workout... Like I literally got stronger... Idk... Maybe I was just so excited by my skin I could do more... Ha.

But my body feels better too for real. And I can do everything better. =)

But I know how much acne sucks. I signed up so I can attempt to help by sharing what has worked for me and hope it works for someone else...

If anyone wants to ask me questions, they can PM. Just remember everyone's skin is different. But I'm willing to share what has worked for me. =) I hope it works for you guys. =)

Don't know where to start, so, in advance, forgive my digressions. With the holistic approach, I think is important to remember that everybody's level of holistic well-being is different therefore will respond different to, let's say, the same product. Remember, holistic is not just about body but caters to the mind and spirit as well. Where one is on all of these levels lends to their success of a "holistic"treatment. Since the "body" aspect of the holistic approach, in my opinion, has dominated this forum I will start here...but will try to get to some important points.

First, although we may take organic/bio-active/bio-dynamic/natural supplementations, plant life, mushrooms, etc and even consume all organic foods/beverages, it's important to take note of where they come from, how the ingredients are extracted, packaged, and level of care taken after it arrives home with you. These areas contribute directly to the optimal functionality of your body. For example, was the ingredient extracted through alcohol or glycerin, oxygenation; did it come from a local farmer (the less time from the ground to the plate, the more nutrients) or a warehouse in California awaiting delivery to Texas; when you got your organic food home, did you rinse it with tap water or slow-steep pi (living water) water, etc? As a side bar, if it is the former, then I suggest you read the Associated Press's (March 10, 2008) release about how our drinking water has traces of drugs in them. (but we already knew this, right?!) In addition, if you want to talk toxic; buy a kit and check your drinking water, how did it work out for yah?! This lends itself to a whole host of problems and acne being the least of your worries.

In addition, most people don't drink the right amount of (pi) water each day. So guess what, your cells can't do its job and flush away the toxins. You can drink two gallons of tap water each day and it won't do anything but fill your body with toxins. Ok two more things, are you using a shower filter? The pores open up like a mouth during the shower so all of those "drinking water" toxins are now in your body via your open pores...uh, can this contribute to acne, yes! Whatcha washing your dishes with?!

But I digress. What people don't realize, that providing your body with "proper" nutrition is the second step. The first is spirituality. I know that I may lose some people here but consider this. First, I am not talking about organized religion, though some equate it. It can be any relationship with anything we find an unconditional loving connection. It can be, Jesus, God, Allah, Rah, Buddha, Universe, Gaea, Rocks, grass, whatever, it doesn't matter just that connection. I don't know about you but when I am loved (always) then I am happy. When you are happy, it resonates and has the power to set up healing of the body. By contrast, when we are stressed--you know the saying-- it kills! When the body is under stress, it causes it to go into overdrive depleting needed nutrients to survive/thrive, e.g. B-vitamins, calcium/magnesium, potassium, creation of free radicals from over oxygenation of the body, etc. Again, I don't know about you but when I am stressed, my body is fatigue, acne is having a family reunion on my face and body, easily get sick, not sleeping (with doesn't allow the body to naturally detox itself), etc. So, it no wonder that spiritual deficiency, contributes to dis-ease and illness--including acne. So, your may be saying, I do have spirituality on lock! Well one of the biggest things people over-look is a four letter word; FEAR! Yes, fear! Fear has many manifestations, and contributes GREATLY to dis-ease and illness (including acne). Don't think so?! One of the manifestations of fear is stress.

You mental health is crucial as well because your mind is partly controlled by your emotions. If you emotions are wrought, then what comes up may be fear, worrying, wonderment, etc and this produces...Stress. And here we find the cycle has started! It's all connected!

I've work in an organic health food store in particular in the supplement and health and beauty department (not Whole Foods!) and am constantly--sometimes against my will--receiving product trainings...three-times a month to be exact. After the first few, you can start to discern good versus cheap ingredients. (You'd be surprised who the cheapskates are). In addition, assisting hundreds of akin customers each day, including researching to keep up, will up your knowledge instantly.

I guess I am saying that acne is more than just taking supplements, slapping on products, and eating organic foods. There are other things that needs to be examined and adapted not just to combat acne but for optimal health, well being, and happiness.

I think you can add me as well. I've pics here and also in my photo album here.

I've had success with the alkaline diet and liver cleanses, but now I know they worked because I ate less meat while doing them. The acne would always return and my cheeks would be full of them. Now that I've become a vegetarian again, my acne has healed and my skin tone is looking very good! My skin is smooth with only red marks left after the bad acne I used to have. I never suspected meat to be the reason, but now I think there might be some truth to the blood type diet.

My diet is lots of vegetables, fruit and fat. I also eat some dairy.

I also make sure I go to bed and get up at the same time, every day of the week.

Title: "Diet isn't related to acne..." Bullcrap! Here is my proof!

Summary: After suffering from severe cystic acne for nearly twelve years, he was able to overcome his acne using a dairy/gluten free, high fat and low carb diet consisting of mostly organic foods. Includes before and after photos along with detailed regimen.

you requested that i posted my success story, so here it is. also, you can change the summary if you'd like.

I achieved clear skin through a combination of the following:

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Mainly in the form of oral micronized progesterone. I also used transdermal bi-est for the first six months. This approach has helped me to address a severe underlying hormonal imbalance/deficiency.

Gluten-free, Modified Paleo Diet Details in my sig. Giving up gluten also allowed me to stop coming down with colds and flus every 2-3 months. I haven't been sick in a year and a half! I eventually realized that I needed to give up virtually ALL grains, starches, and yeasts -- not just wheat products. Once I did that, my remaining (very stubborn) non-inflamed small acne FINALLY cleared.

Supplements Heavy-duty probiotics such as Bio-K and Udo's Bifido-Plus; Jarrow Formulas Vitamin D3; High-potency Rainbow Light Women's Answer food-based multi; Carlson's Fish Oil.

That's basically it. I still have a long way to go with my healing and detox, but my skin is clear and I feel so much better than I did one year ago.

Hi. I've been on this forums for a while! I love this forum because it's helpful. I avoided the bad foods because of this forums! As a result, I'm 100% clear. It took a while, though, like a year? But I'm pleased that I am finally clear. I actually have been clear for two months.

These are my diets and healthy lifestyle habits-

Before I go to gym-

Meal #1 4 Ezekiel bread with extra-virgin coconut oil, and water.

After work out

Meal #2 1 scoop of whey protein 100% isolate from Jay Robb in water, and 2-3 ezekiel bread.

Meal #3 2 chicken breast , big salads ( romaine lettuce, red cabbage, carrots and one avocados with extra-virgin olive oil added as topping. ) and water. Also I use seasoning for meats - Garlic powder , turmeric powder and onion powder. And I use extra-virgin coconut oil for cooking!

Meal #4 2 ezekiel bread and water.

Meal #5 Same as meal #3.

Meal #6 2 ezekiel bread until I get home to make my protein shake! :)

Total: 200g-220g carbs , 120-150g fats, and 200g+ protein.

3k+ calories.

I lift heavy-weights. I started cycling! Bought a road-bike. :|

I have a job which it's cardio to me! Because all you do is walk, lift , walk , lift

I work at a warehouse

That was the one thing that frustrated me about this site, it seems the only thing approaching a "cure zone" here was the regimen links, and for me that's a bit useless because 1. I can't get these products easily or cheaply in SA 2. Because I want a natural treatment. Otherwise might as well go back on the pill. Maybe if enough people ask for an "alternative" success stories page they'll consider building one in....? I certainly would have posted there, I think a lot of people naturally want to share their good news with their fellow sufferers. And it certainly would have saved me loads of time and trouble.

Anyway, someone asked me nicely so here is my "almost cured" story:

I have had acne for 20 years, ever since puberty. My acne is fairly mild, but chronic ie. I don't have "off" weeks or "breakouts" - just a continuous stream of stubborn pimples, which over time leaves an accumulation of marks and causes my complexion to start looking very bad.

I was controlling it through the use of Oral contraceptives (any brand of combination pill seemed to work for me) but I wanted to stop using drugs and find a natural cure.

(some stuff about the cause of acne, sure you know about it already yadda yadda....) So the upshot of this is to manage the hormones which trigger cells into overdrive and this is what I found worked for me:

1. Pure Peppermint tea, 1 or 2 cups a day. This reduces free testosterone levels - got me about 60-70% clear.

2. Controlling blood sugar. There is a STRONG link between high insulin production and acne, so I never allow my blood sugar levels to rise too high. I cut out refined sugars and also have a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon just before I eat (cinnamon lowers blood sugar). I also supplement with chromium.

3. Not having cows milk. I still eat cheeses, but milk has become a big no no - containing all the wrong hormones. So switched to soy. I heard goat's milk is also a more than acceptable alternative.

- Now 95% clear, and still seeing gradual improvement.

For marks: Bio-oil, used directly on the marks, found this needs careful SPARING use - otherwise it breaks me out again.
