Dianette

Recommended Posts

I finally got myself to the Docs today and was prescribed Dianette - I'm hoping it will work!

I too was told that it is only for severe acne and only after the person has tried long term antibiotics without success. Antibiotics had no effect on me, so am on Dianette for the next 3mths to see if there's any change. If not, he said he'll refer me to a skin specialist for Roaccutane as that's the only thing that's more effective than Dianette, but docs aren't allowed to deal with it.

Anyone know if Dianette helps with overly oily hair? If it does, how long does it take for it to kick in?

I noticed that my hair wasn't so greasy a few days after starting Dianette. I wash my hair every day anyway, but I noticed that when I woke up in the mornings, my hair wasn't stuck to my head in so much grease!

I wouldn't go two days without washing, but I think that was the first thing I noticed!

3rd month now and I can see the improvements :) yay! Although, stress is now playing a major role with my acne, my neck is still bad especially two in particular anyway people are commenting on the general improvement of my acne, ie. the left side of my face, forehead, chin and around my mouth has significantly improved, now just have to focus on my neck and right side of my face....so hope to clear that my next month. The sun has helped too ;)

one thing is my boobs are just so annoying, feel heavy and fluctuate from time to time..but the rest of my weight is fine..

Hope all is well for you ladies!

let me know...:):)

I've broken out on my neck too .. odd. Though, does anyone know if Diane has helped body acne? I have acne on my back and so far diane 35 hasn't helped at bit .. it's still worst as ever!

I used to have horrible acne on my back but for the last couple of years it settled down on its own, so it was just about a dozen spots at a time as opposed to so many I could count. I've now been taking dianette for two months and in the last week I have only had two on my back...so I would say it has helped. The acne on my chest has considerably improved too, gradually. Overall I think it has actually worked more for my body acne than for my face...but I'm starting to see improvements there too and I know I need to give it time. How long have you been on dianette?

I have a problem with the red marks and scarring too. It was just recently I broke out severly due to alesse BC I was prescribed and my skin broke out the worst it has even been and is just going back to normal. Diane is helping me a ton though and it has only been a week!. For the red marks and scaring try a TCA peel.. I would recommend 12%!

I started Dianette last Thursday so have been on it for nearly a week. After three days I noticed an improvement in my skin which was AMAZING as nothing clears my skin up, any treatment normally just makes it worse. Of course, it wasn't to last. On Monday I had a breakout, three large, red, painful spots and a monster of a cyst on my cheek which must be about 2" wide :wall::( Am hoping ti will clear up soon - it looks awful :doubt:

SAHARA: I also didn't have any breakouts in the fist days, after the 7th day or so I brokeout and I freaked out. keep up with the treatment, things will get better.Do not stress out cause things might get worse, Iknow it's difficult but it will do you good and the initial breakout will go away faster. In the third month mark most people see improvement of 30% , others a bit more and sometimes others are completely clear. It just depends on the individual. I agree with coffeejunkie, stick with it and evaluate at the 3rd month. The initial breakout lasted for me around 1.5 month and then subsided. after that i got spots but not like the initial breakout. I am in the middle of my third pack and am thinking of not taking my 7daybreak and just take my 4th pack straight. still debating on that....At the moment I have one active spot, small tiny rash sort of on my forehead, and some red marks not as bad as it used to be though, hope things get better. do keep us informed with your progress, just be possitive and things will get better.

COFFEEJUNKIE: I have noticed that my boos are so big this month too,but I actually love it LOL. Have you notice that some active spots go away fast?

LIZZIEM: Do you still get a few spots on your 5th month.?

FIZGIG: How are things going with you?

best of luck to all,

Hello. I took the my first pill of Diane-35 last night and this morning I woke up with severe cramps, dizziness, nausea and fatigue. I usually have a light period only lasting about 3 days every month, and never really that heavy. Today was probably the heaviest period I have ever had, and my cramps were also the most pain I have ever had. I stayed home from school and slept for 6 hours which is something I never do, especially since I got 8 hours of sleep last night. I still feel a bit nauseous, tired and I still have severe abdominal pain but I don't feel like I should call my doctor until I actually throw up or something. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Again, last night was my first time taking Diane-35.

Hi JaymeN , that sounds serious and I suggest u go see a doctor, doesnt the leaflet say if one suffers sever stomach pains to contact their doctor asap...

Although when I first stared Dianette my periods were so heavy it was unreal, i was on it last year too and the same happened, lasted heavily for 8 days!!! Cramps, fatigue , depression , headaches I had too, now it's not so bad only really at the time of the month but I can handle it..

Anyway this pill may not be for you and your doctor may offer u another one like Yaz or something , hope I helped :)

my doctor wants to take me off dianette, there was no tear off thingy for a repeat presecription on the last prescription,so he wants a word.....and probly to take me off the thing! as im like 21 is it my choice and decision to stay on it? i dont see the point in coming off it like,it keeps my bad skin to a minimum. unless he wants to take my blood pressure and other ahem tests....as ive been on it two years and he hasnt :eh: what a dumbshit. is it lethal coming off it? i dont want to ahhhh

I've stopped using dianette (only just) I'm not sure what's going to happen :( I stopped because

a) I've run out and can't be bothered to go doctors so I'll just leave it for a couple of months b) I don't like dianette I swear it gives me bizarre mood changes whenever I'm late taking the pill or skip it by accident.

c) I want to go on a different pill anyway, but don't want to gain weight or have side effects :(

I'll be stopping Dianette in the next few days, I've been on it 6 months and now my doctor wants me to come off it. I've been prescribed Marvelon to take instead, so I don't know what's going to happen either! :( I'm quite worried, I haven't really had any side effects on Dianette and don't want a huge breakout now!

I am half way through my fourth pack. I thought things were getting better, but I have woken up every day with new spots, and I also have a face full of scabs and red marks from previous ones that haven't healed. I am so depressed about the way I look that I can't bring my self to get out of bed. My boss at work has been very nice when I have called her in tears for the past three days, but I feel bad for telling her I have a cold when really I'm so ashamed of how I look that I don't want anyone to see me.

Part of me knows that how I feel is vain and irrational. I have also done some research and found that Dianette can make you depressed. I'm sure I wouldn't feel depressed if I didn't look like the elephant man. What should I do though? I can't stop half way through a pack and I can't see a Doctor until Monday.

Does anyone else feel like this?

rachelS: I know how you feel, I don't know if you read my post but I have also canceled plans with friends and didn't go out at all for a long long time. I was dating my boyfrined who now is my husband now and it was so bad to even see him straight on the face , cause when he met me i was clear and then all of the sudden i broke out baddly. i was so ashamed of showing my face. I used to stay home and cry my eyes out, I stopped going to school, seeing my friends and well it was like as if i was home prisoned...My sleep was terrible, I couldn't sleep and had gone 5 straight days without sleep wich was caused by stress i guess.I broke out on my back, my b***,and on the face. I went to a doc who percribed me ortho lo but never took it cause i was so afraid of the side effects. Then I flew to my country to get some rest and to see a good derm who prescribed antibiotics and topicals that helped a bit but not completely.... spend a month there and came back... I was a bit more calm but i did have some crying spells.... time went by and decided to stop my medicine and instead took vitamin b5 and it actually helped a lot. My back was clear and even when i stopped the b5 it remained like that as well as my b***. I think that my breakout on my body were because of the stress i have having.....At this point I married my husband and was actually going out more. Once i decreased the b5 dosage i started to breakout only on my face this time......I started again to spend my time indoors and a friend of mine noticed that I was not going out and she recommended bcp for my breakouts.... my husband agreed and I am now here trying to see if things get better...... I will be finishing my third pack this sunday ..... I still have some active spots and do get low but I try my best to bring my self back up because i surely don't want to get stressed out .Sometimes it's really difficult though. I was reading somewhere that stress make testosterone high and that is what makes your spots worse... since then I try to change my mood instantly when i know that i feel low.... I did notice that my mood changed once i stopped b5, this vitamin helps with stress and now i was thinking if it would be safe to take it with diane or any bcp, not the high dose but at least three pills a day.... i would surely research so i take it daily for the stress. The lady at gnc told me that b5 are to be taken to help with depression..... well it did for mee back then now i just stopped because of diane .... i personatly think that you should work on your stress, i know that is difficult , trust me been there, but it surely will help...My best friend is also battleing with depression caused by Thyroid and we both help each other out . maybe you should do the same....

I am also worried that maybe diane stops working and this lead to my stress

hope things get better for you and for all of us ..... do keep posting....

Ladies can we take vitamins b5 with diane 35? please if some one could ask there doc would be helpful....thanks

best of luck to all

Hey!

Just been reading all your posts and I feel so much better! I've always felt like the only one in their twenties who has such bad acne so I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

I'm going to be starting Dianette (well, the non-brand version of it anyway, but same thing!) in 5 days when my period should come! Quite nervous but will keep posting here to let you know how it's going!

my history - acne since 13 (altho looking back it was barely anything to care about back then, i'd kill to have my skin return to that!) used Zineryt first, aged 16 til aged 19 on an off. Between 17 and 18 I had mostly clear skin, some days TOALLY CLEAR as in I could go out without makeup...then aged 19 I relappsed and Zineryt stopped working. Back then it was only ever on my chin and forehead and didn't leave red marks but was still quite a lot and made people ask 'what's wrong with your face?' Ouch.

Since then I've used oxytetracyline (what a pain to take!), one which was the pill form of zineryt which made me feel v sick and most recently tretacyccline which was easy to take and with no side effects but didn't stop my mental break-outs before my period, although it did help generally. I've also used differin which I found quite good for active spots.

My skin at the moment is AWFUL, loads of big active spots in a cluster on either side of my chin and loads on my right cheek which are painful and not shifting at all! Only a tiny, tiny one on my left cheek though...anyone else only tend to get them on one cheek? Weird. I have red scarring, indented/pit scarring and raised scaring (which looks like more spots..but it's just skin coloured rasied bumps...grr). I am hopeful that dianette will sort me out! My boy wants to get engaged soon, but at the moment I can barely stand to see him cos I feel so ugly that a wedding is totally out of the question for me! I keep praying for clear, normal skin like everyone else seems to have! At the moment I'm always hiding indoors.

In the meantime I'm going to try and find some over-the-counter BP as my doc wouldn't perscribe me a topical with my pill (she said it would mean we wouldn't know which was working, bit annoying but there ya go!). What would you guys reccomend? I've found that as long as I moisturize after using a product my skill is pretty tough!

I'm taking a multi vit at the moment, which in the past i've been told doesn't affect medications but i would also like to try Vit B! Will see if I can find some tomorrow!

Also have used aloe vera gel in the past - defo reccomend (especially for sunburn!) Gels have been proven to be better than creams and getting deep down into the skin so I can suggest u always go for that!

ONE QUESTION: I think the bigger boobs side of D. sounds great as I'm only a 32 AA and live in padded bras...but I'm worried about stretch-marks. Have you guys experienced this? I'm totally paranoid so am using intensive 'dry skin' moisturiser every night to try and supple up!
