do u still need blood work for really low doses?

Recommended Posts

do u still need blood work for really low doses? if it wasnt for the blood work i would prob pay $1000+ right now for accutane but its just the blood work that is killin my mind. i cant stand needles to the point that i rather have nothing then to get poked 3 times.. yeah it sounds stupid but ive had enough bad experiences with needles. i was wondering if there was any dosage u could use that would be safe enough to not worry about blood work. anyone know?

No, and not in the US. Men don't have as stringent requirements so you may squeak by with only one or two blood tests. Don't look when they are drawing the blood.

There are some derms who use microdoses and don't do blood tests, when i say microdoses i mean 40mg a week... 2x20mg tabs a week. However if you have a history of liver disease or such like you will need testing regardless....

Well, I'm taking 20mg, which isn't such a high dose, and my derm said I should get the blod work done every 2 or months. My cholesterol levels went a bit up, though, so that's probably why he wants to keep a close eye on those.

I'm actually not as terrified as needles as I was before starting accutane. I still have to squeeze my eyes shut and turn my head away when the poke the needle in.. but then its not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, just yesterday I got my blood drawn but a new nurse who had never really drawn blood on a patient before!!! Lol, I was terrified.

Yeah i have had alot of blood tests over the past year, through having very high cholesterol (genetic not bad diet) and then going on accutane whilst taking statins... I was being tested every week it seemed like. I actually got worse as i had a few bad experiences, now i seem to get faint most times :S
