Is this safe to put on my face?

I made a board earlier about how my MMU is too dark. I was thinking about lightening it with kaolin clay, since it's the first ingredient listed, but I discovered a local shop sells something called bentonite clay, which is supposed to be medicinal.

Has anyone ever heard of it? Would it help my skin? Hurt it?

Any input would be fantastic! <33 (PS: hubby said no to paying online prices for fixers, so I'm trying this myself xD And I work a block from the natural food store that sells the stuff)

Wait, all the pictures I'm finding of it look pretty dark. I thought it was lighter than that, since the description said it was "off white".

=/

-still searching-

I've put fullers earth clay on my face before as a light dusting of setting powder with no noticable problems.. Kaolin clay is listed as an ingredient in some mineral makeups, so I can't really see why not.

Though, I'd be wary of using too much because it seems it could cause caking.

Gotta hand it to you, I may just doctor some Aubrey Nicole mineral makeup I bought because their lightest color is too dark on my soooo pale face.

<edit:>Oops, I misread your post. Bentonite is simply another clay though, I have some of that to. I really can't see why not. Same thing though, I'd be careful with caking.

<edit again:> Fullers earth is very light, & helped me to cover a red spot or two in a pinch.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, Dee. ^^

We pale people got it rough when buying makeup. It's AN's palest shade, too, and it's about two or three shades too dark, methinks, but I'm willing to do what I can to fix it. The local hardware store supposedly sells kaolin clay in bulk -- 5$ for a 50lb bag. o.o I plan to check it out, though it is high sicila? I wonder what that means in regards to my face.

So you noticed Bentonite is light? I'm hopeful, since I refuse to go to work without anything to cover my acne, and it sells for bulk in the local natural food store for about 7$ a pound. I'd only need an ounce, at most.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your help! You're giving me hope. x)

I'd go for the stuff from the health food store first.

Something tells me that the bag of Fullers earth I got from mountain rose herbs might be somehow cleaner than the stuff they have at the hardware stores..

The bentonite clay I have in the other room is from Aztec. (brand) I just checked, it's pretty light in color. Good luck! :D

Thanks for the reply. ^^ I've been tearing through this city trying to find stuff, but they don't have anything.

I guess I have to wait until I get home and try the bentonite. Wish me luck. xP

I've heard of kaolin clay and bentonite clay being used in clay masks. I don't know if they will clog pores if worn all day long.

How about titanium dioxide? It is white in color and is used as a pigment in numerous color cosmetics (including pure mineral makeups) and in sunscreens (the only type of sunscreen I use). If you're interested, it's available on ebay: http://search.ebay.ca/search/search.dll?so...earch&fgtp=

Good luck.

Yer, Titanium Dioxide sounds way better. Its included in most MMU or maybe nearly all, and is a natural sunscreen which is great!

A lot of companies sell Kaolin Clay and it is safe to put on your face and also to lighten your makeup (ya'll must be very pale :) I use AN and I thought I was the palest person on earth and I use the Light Neutral!) but you should use cosmetic grade Kaolin Clay. Not sure what type of Kaolin Clay they would sell at a hardware store and for that cheap!! Good luck, I love AN and their makeup. Have you thought of asking them to custom formulate a light color for you?

I never thought of titanium dioxide. I wonder if it's available in local shops?

Arrgh! I made about fifty phone calls - no exaggeration - and nobody knows what kaolin is or where I can buy it.

I'm so frustrated! >.<

Since you like AN so much, first ask them about customizing a formula for you...can't hurt to ask. She is so nice and accommodating and then ask if you can buy some Kaolin Clay from her. I can't believe it's be very expensive at all and you'd only need a small amount. Probably just a baggie worth, which could be mailed in am envelope with stamps, so no big shipping costs either. Worth asking.

for Kaolin/clays ^^ They have fast shipping, wonderful staff, and a great selection of products.

^^ For titanium dioxide or zinc oxide - nice lady - fast shipping

http://www.makingcosmetics.com/store/index...arget=d326.html

^^ Great for everything - they've got it all

^^ My fave for pigments and TD or ZO (they have clays and micas too)

BTW - I recommend Zinc Oxide over titanium dioxide - TD can take on a greasy grey sheen if too much is added, zinc is a pure, snow white.

Husband made, like, two phone calls and found some for .60 an ounce at a local herbalist, so he picked me up a scoop of it. I dumped in the rest of my warm to counteract the hideous red in the cosmetic and added a spoonful or so of the clay, and now my makeup is wearable. Yay! =D

Neko, you still around?

I wondered if you are doing alright?

Also, on topic, was curious how it wears? I looked in on the everyday minerals website. Their light colors look really light..They're inexpensive.

Here are their main ingredients:

http://www.everydayminerals.com/g?t=viewDo...ram=ingredients

All products except Finishing Powders

Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Zinc Oxide, (may contain Ultramarines).

Though, I'm seriously looking at making my own. I'm still searching for a makeup that doesn't irritate my skin.

Hope you are well.
