Dermatologist/Doctor listing on Acne.org

Recommended Posts

We came up with an idea to allow dermatologists and doctors to put their information on an acne.org database. They could put their address, phone number, and specialty down and we could make it searchable depending on where you live. Would this be a helpful addition? Do you guys have any comments or suggestions?

I think it's a great idea. My derm would be all for it......he's trying to expand his chain of derm offices nation wide, have his own pathology labs and also have his own line of OTC skincare products. He's all for publicity. He even has a huge hummer painted in crazy neon colors that says "Accredited Dermatology" on it........

Yeah i think that sounds great. Its so hard to find a good Dr.

I think actual reviews from members is also significant.

Hopefully we can get dermatologists and cosmetic dermatologists in the scar forum.

Sounds like a good idea.

It would be wonderful to also have them list whether they do procedures like: TCA CROSS, saline injections, other dermal fillers, or needling for acne scarring.

I don't really like it.....

Its kind of like an advertising directory for derms which i didn't think this board was about. I like the idea of recommendations, maybe have an area specific forum with sub-forums per state or are of the country where members can share where to get products from and type thier derm recommendations etc.

I just think it will cause trouble when companies spam the directory or a few members get pissed off because they havn't completley cured their scars or given them accutane.

I like this idea. I think it would add further validation to the site and could be done in much the same style as everything else on the org, ie advertising and spam free. I have no doubt you would do it Dan, with the highest of ethics as you have everything else.

Carefully managed it would be a wonderful addition to the site.

I think it sounds great..also maybe a list of what ins. they take - I would find that helpful.

I also see where kat is coming from too though. Would you contact derms or they contact you? Will you get info like how long they have been practicing etc?

ISounds wonderful but I also see the potential for a huge headache.

Yeah this is what i'm saying. The theory behind it is really good. I just don't think it would work in practice.

Maybe have a recommendations forum where if a derm has over say 10 recommendations from vet members then you Dan could contact them and ask if they would like to offer their advice at certain sessions times. That way you go to reputable ones rather than they go to find you. For example even if you get a genuine derm if they are usless is it going to benefit anyone by them posting here? Also stating the obvious here there are going to be alot of fake derms pushing treatments online. I just feel there are 45774546367578 online 'dr' sites and this site doesn't need that sort of publicity...

Kat, unless you're lucky enough to have a derm personally recommended, you either *TRY* to search google for a derm in your area or you use the acne.org directory where you'd be much more likely to find relevant results.

I don't have an issue with derms making themselves known to us. You'd talk to the derm and only visit one you feel comfortable with. I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of vetting process for them though.

It was just a suggestion to regulate it if you must send the board down the whole craigslist route. No need to jump up my arse about it.

there is no harm in it, imo...

maybe a comments option for each derm... would be nice.. and places pressure on derms to not act like arse holes...

as is the case with these kinds of things (with the org being a usa based website) I hope the UK doesn't get left out so include some of them too

i think this ad thing might be more valuable for various derm treatments e.g. laser, dermabrasion etc as i nthe UK i do not know of anyone that specialises in such treatment apart from some dr chu from london who is impossible to contact

I was thinking about a similar idea for this site recently. It would be a pretty helpful feature, especially since existing dermatologist searches are not too helpful. There certainly aren't any that are acne specific. In fact, I was getting ready to post my own topic on this idea, but was sure someone had already suggested it. I found this topic pretty quickly.

Anyway, I say that I had a "similar" idea because I would be more interested in seeing reviews of dermatologists instead of just listings. Others have suggested recommendations, and I suppose that's the same thing. There should be a rating system though (as in the product reviews section), and members should be allowed to complain about any bad experiences as well, even if they only pout about being denied accutane (which is sometimes justified).

I hope to see this feature implemented soon. I would definitely feel better about seeing a dermatologist again if he/she is highly recommended by acne.org users.

Seems like an ok idea.

Question: does affiliating derms with the org mean that they agree with the advice provided by the org on the treatment of acne?

how are they affiliated with the org? just to post ads? is the org becoming nonprofit?

im also curious: do any doctors send patients with acne to the org as a reference?

my family doctor knew very little about general acne treatment, and i think the org would be a great reference for doctors
