the studies have show it to be carcinogenic when used at 100% concentrations, since the maximum FDA allowed is 60% (and 60% is a prescription strength) were all safe :)

loads of stuff causes cancer, salicylic acid at 89% or higher causes cancer, BP at 100% causes cancer.

things u find in cans of coke/spite all all carcinogenic at higher percentages, but safe at low percentages :)

yea plus the true reason why they have banned it in certain countries is not because its so dangerous but because of the way some ppl use it, in S. Africa some ppl bath in hydroquinone to make their skin lighter and in high concentration. When used properly it is tolerable. Unless you plan to bathe in it, smother large areas of skin, or eat it then theres a very small risk.

Are there any studies that show the long term effects of 2% hydroquinone?

I use it occasionally just to be on the safe side.

so far no long term studies about hydroquinone, but the study that concluded that it is carcinogenic was done on rats but was done using large concentrations over large areas of the rats body. An alternative to hydroquinone, Kojic acid, is also available but there are tests showing that it is also carcinogenic but data so far is inconclusive. Some ppl find hydroquinone useless, but if it works for you, you should know that they are currently trying to ban it as over the counter medication.

2% is safe :)

plus, when they define "carcinogenic" it may not mean it causes cancer, may just alter skin cells, or half mutate them.

many doctors use "carcinogenic" as a generic word for stuff, they may not mean that what they are describing is actually "cancer causing"
