antibiotics with birth control pills for acne

Hi All,

I just found this board recently, and I was wondering if there are people here that take both antibotics and BC pills for acne? I read somewhere that antibiotics can decrease the effect of BC pills. Does that mean that it affects BC's effect on controlling acne? I'm only taking Yasmin to help with my acne. If taking antibiotics affect Yasmin, does that mean that Yasmin would help with my acne better if I didn't take the antibiotics?

bakgroung info:I started doxycycline a few months ago, but havne't noticed anything significantly improved, so I asked my doctor for Yasmin. She didn't say anytning about taking the two together, and frankly, I don't think she took the time to answer my questions or pay attention to my concerns.

Would really appreciate your feedback here !! thanks in advance

It just means you should have 2 reliable forms of birth control, pills and condoms, or pills and a female condom, and perhaps also a condom.

They are telling you that since the BC may not be going at full force, you need to protect yourself in other ways just as a precaution, but the antibiotics shouldn't decrease the anti acne effect of the Yasmin.

I advice , since you have the luck of be a woman and could take oral antiandrogens to try Flutamide or spironolactone . You could do a research on www.pubmed.gov

hey James, Im wondering about the spironolactone. Im on Yasmin and I just started yesterday but this other stuff you talk about sounds like it really works. Could I take it along with Yasmin? If so, how do I get it and the right doses? Is there any harmful effects? Thanks!
