Things will never be the same again.

For the first time in a long, long... long time, I actually had reasonably clear skin. Is this really what I wanted. Yes. Do I feel different? No.

I've had this problem far too long, that it has affected my unconcious. All my anti-social tendencies have been seared into me uncounciously, clear skinned or not.

I swear, even my voice can't even go up high octaves as it used to. All this change in a manner or 3 years.

Oh well. 'Tis better to be lonely with clear skin, then with bad skin.

Same exact thing happened to me. I naively assumed that clear skin would lead me to be a self-confident, sociable person. Unfortunately for me this was not the case.

The best thing you can do is to force yourself to start interacting with people. Get out of your comfort zone. When you've alienated yourself for so long, you lose the reinforcement from being around people. Re-entering the social scene is incredibly reinforcing, which can have amazing effects on your self-esteem.

I want to. Believe me, I really want to. Its just that these past 3 years, every conversation I have always leave me wondering, "was she staring?"

And even after a couple days of clear skin, I live in fear of its return. Nothing worse then meeting a gal one day w/ good skin, then shocking her in the next w/ bad.

And what bothers me even more is the fact that acne is like a bomb. Something so small can be so insultingly devestating. I don't want to be bothered by this nuisance, but its there, and it does.

:(

People don't notice your skin as much as you think. You shouldn't worry about it so much. Seriously, people severely overestimate the extent to which others notice imperfections. It's called the spotlight effect.

And even if someone does notice your skin, who cares? It really doesn't matter. You are not defined by your acne. As demonstrated by all the people who post here, you are clearly not alone. Millions of people deal with acne. And it's nothing to be ashamed about. Just go on living your life and don't obsess over it.

Obviously it's much easier said than done.

I hope things get better for you. Hang in there. :)

Guest Grow To Overthrow

Yeah, i completely understand what you're saying. Though instead of choosing to accept the negatives, i decided to go see a Psychotherapist. Some really simple Cognitive Behavioral Therapy over time managed to help my mind immensely. I've got a couple of meditation tapes, made for me during sessions, which i find quite beneficial.

At first i though it'd be some huge ordeal by which i'd have to sift through all the awful feelings of the past years, but it was so basic. You need to change the way you think. If you convinced yourself to think so poorly of yourself, why can't it work in the opposite?!
