primo1 2 Share Posted March 20, 2007 Nothing, that's just a myth. Our face doesn't have sensors or anything. It's just a marketing hype.

whitershadeofpale 1 Share Posted March 20, 2007 I'm not sure what causes it, but i know the best thing to help control it is essential oils.....I make my own toner using Tea Tree, Lavender, Geranium, and Cypress, and dilute them with water and spray all over face.....not only is my face less oily during the day, but my breakouts have reduced dramatically! Just a side note, Geranium oil is 10 times more effective than Tea Tree, in my opinion.....I seriously don't break out as much as before....and best of all, a bottle of essential oil will last for a long time if you use them correctly.I also strongly reccomend you eat less sugar, it can cause severe breakouts for me.. lifter4life 0 Share Posted March 21, 2007 If you're asking specificly if your face makes more oil because it is dry; I don't know. Nobody has ever given me good evidence for or against it. There are things that contribute to oily skin though, like hormones and genes. Androgen hormones, growth hormone, and insulinlike-growth-factor (IGF-1) are hormones that are proven to directly regulate the sebaceous glands.here are a few sites that have some pretty decent info on them.http://dermnetnz.org/acne/sebum.htmlhttp://dermnetnz.org/acne/seborrhoea.htmlhttp://www.emedicine.com/derm/byname/acne-vulgaris.htm
