Quick question. Do you ever feel light headed after taking Fish Oil Pills?

I read somewhere in this thread that Omega 3 works almost instantly on blood pressure. I've noticed I have been getting this hazy light headed feeling lately. Could this be the Fish Oils? Is this something I should be concerned about?

I upped my dose over time. Starting from just one 300mg pill a day to what I'm currently taking now which is around 3'8grams. This increase took me about 2 weeks.

Anyone else here get a similar feeling?

Sacto, yes!!

Well let me elaborate. Somewhere in the midst of this thread I decided to bump up my daily dosage to 3 grams. And not only that, I wanted to split it 2x a day, meaning I took 1.5 grams in one go (5 pills at a time), when I was used to 2.

Fast forward 3 hours later, I became SO light headed that I felt like I was going to faint. I checked my BP and it was pretty low.

That's why I always suggest people to up 1 gram/week instead of so fast. So lower it and go up sloowwllyy. Remember, results will come, just go slow :). And don't worry, the dizziness will be temp, and it's not serious, so just go lower, and spread it out more through the day. I do 4x a day or 3. But now my body can handle 5 pills at a time if I chose, before I never could.

Good luck!

I've tasted fish two days in a row after a burp. It's after my second omega 3 intake of the day. Nothing too worrying, but can someone explain it? lol

Try this :)

"Test your fish oil capsules by biting into one. It should taste fresh and mildly fishy. If it tastes bad or strong, throw them away and don't buy that brand again."

Normally it's because you are not digesting the fish oil, that's what happens for some reason. It may self adjust. Do the rancid test to be sure you are fine. :)

NdnRomeo,

Thanks again for responding so quick. I feel better knowing that its nothing to worry about.

Besides, it's sort of like a natural high. So it's not too bad. Hahaha...

lol no problem :) I won't leave this place so you can ask as many questions as you like.

And yes, that's also one of the reasons I am glad I got to experiment with this from the high points to the lows, so I can tell everyone from personal experience about what mistakes not to make at my expense.

this is exactly what i mean, i can take 4 g O3 at once and i already have a very low blood pressure, and nothing, no lightheadedness. which brings me back to the fact that i'm surely not absorbing the oil very well, even my skin is still a bit flaky, and i have been taking it for about 2 months now.

I'm going to ask again, has anyone eaten or tried any of "Smart Balance"'s Omega-3 based products, specifically their peanut butter??? In the last couple of days I got a pretty bad breakout and am pondering what may have caused it, considering at the moment I'm taking 2.7-3.0 grams of O3 a day. One of the possibilities I'm looking at is the jar of Smart Balance Peanut Butter I've been eating a lot of lately. Yes, I am aware that it is better than most regular peanut butters out there, yet still something that should be eaten moderately. Here's the nutrition facts on their peanut butter:

http://www.smartbalance.com/omega3.html#

I rarely eat breakfast to begin with, and this peanut butter has been the staple of my breakfasts for a couple of months now so cutting down on it would really throw me into a loop as to what the heck I should be eating for breakfast.

I'm also looking at the paper towels (run-of-the-mill Bounty and what not) that I use to blot oil from my face with. I prefer these to the Clean & Clear sheets because those things are too damn small for my entire face, and I'd probably go through 1/4 of the packet on just one blotting session. When I do blot with paper towels though, I blot as gently and carefully as possible, not scratching my face with them. Still, I wonder if they clog up my skin or something, they are run-of-the-mill paper towels though.

And one last, unrelated question: what's the verdict on eating Chef Boyardee products and Instant Ramen??? How much would those rape my acne exactly and why??? I eat a lot of the former and only occasionally eat the latter.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Without trying to put on any bias or spin on this:

Does anyone believe that taking fish oil capsules made their acne worse?

I purchased some fish oil today, after reading this thread.

Thankfully they are odourless (no yucky fishy taste if i Burp), and are tested for heavy metals.

Now, are these potent enough: (per capsule)

EPA 180mg

DHA 120mg

it says to take 2 capsules with meals, 3 times a day. Is this adequate?

Another question, is it ok to take fish oil whilst on the following supplements:

Evening primrose oil (i know u say its better to take borage, but is it still ok to take primrose?)

Calcium 600mg (since i dont eat dairy anymore)

Zinc 22mg

Herbal tincture (consists of: Saw palmetto, dandelion, yellow dock, burdock, nettle, blue flag, oats, licorice)

I would really appreciate a reply. Thanks! :)

Did fish oil help anyone's dandruff here? just wondering  Coz I have huge amount of dandruff.

http://www.weddingsireland.com/irish-weddi...D617D73091.html

Dry skin is very common in this age of "fat phobia". Most people buy creams and lotions to overcome dry skin that hide the problem but never fix it. Thankfully there is a solution for dry skin and that is to add plenty of healing Omega 3 fats to your diet, which will moisturize your skin from the inside out. Omega 3's make the skin more supple and silky so flaky, scaly, rough itchy skin can be improved by increasing your intake of Omega 3's.

Dandruff also responds positively to Omega 3 intake, because dandruff is just dry skin flaking off.

Damn, omega 3 does everything, I wouldn't be surprised if they vacuum my room for me too.

Dandruff is actually not just dry skin. Dandruff is always part of some other skin problems, like Psoriasis, or in pretty much everybody Seborrheic Dermatitis. For most people their only symptom of Seborrheic Dermatitis is dandruff, and it never spreads to anywhere else on their body.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000501/2703.html

In people with SD, it is known that their is a lack of EFA's in their blood. That is why taking Omega 3 supplements can help. It is not helping because of lack of moisturization.

Even for most people, dry skin is usually not from naturally dry skin, it usually comes from something, whether it is overwashing, or eczema, or SD, or something else.

Hm, you've been taking it for 2 months so you should be able to handle 4 grams easily.

Also, how much water are you drinking, and tell me your routine as it comes to food, supplement intake, and water consumption.

The o3 is coming from "flaxseed and palm fruit oil" so it's not a good source at all, mainly for marketing purposes.

For general purposes, if it doesn't say o3 from dha or epa straight, then this could be happening: http://newsletter.vitalchoice.com/e_articl...tgND,b1pTrCB7,w

I would probably just not peanut butter in my honest opinion, or cut down so little, to see results as fast as possible. Also, be aware of any other causes to your oil production besides out of control hormones. How is your washing regimen, etc?

About chef and raymen products: simple... processed carbs and salt = Sugar and Salt.

Explains in detail ^

I used to eat raman all the time, and I dropped it like a bad habit a couple of years ago.

Look at the section about cod liver oil, it has a part talking about vitamin e and how much is the tolerable intake. So then you can figure out if you will od on vit e.

and yes, that is fine, 30%. I have a feeling the bottle says 2 capsules per serving, correct?

I purchased some fish oil today, after reading this thread.

Yup, that is adequate, just be sure of the serving size, and go by what we recommend in terms of how much to take instead.

Those supplements are fine, but I would look into switching to borage oil instead of evening prim rose oil. It can have up to 6x the amount of GLA per pill instead of the little amount in EPO (the puritan's pride brand does). Save money :) The rest are fine.

not really drinking much water, maybe 500 ml, otherwise i eat oats, all bran flakes with soy milk, low gi bread, chicken, fish and once a week pizza (thin base with little cheese only). not really too restrictive, it does not work for me. i have started taking loratadine today?

At least get in a good 10 glasses daily for water consumption, preferably after your food has digested. f.o. really does help with hydrating your skin very well, so ensure you are getting as much water as possible at the perfect opportunities, that will really help.

I think you should be good to go  Your diet is fantastic :)

Hey ndnromeo, autonomous and anyone else whos been doing this for a couple months now, how exactly is your skin behaving at this point?

I noted around last Friday that I had a drop in my excess oil production...this is still true, though it definitely seems to fluxuate from day to day. I used to be able to feel my skin getting oily as hell not long after I got to school(pretty much from like 9:30 to 12) and over the last week or so I haven't really been able to feel too much excess oil untill late in the afternoon.

One thing I really noticed this week though, and this has happened here and there while ive been taking fish oil, but been really evident this last week or so, is that my face still seems to break out, but the pimples are incredibly short-lived. Like I can literally have a very weak irritated area where a big pimple would normally form, and have it be gone by the afternoon or if its at night, by the next morning. The area may remain irritated under the skin for another day or two, but its basically gone. Im really nto sure what to make of this....on one hand im extremely impressed at how the fish oil is handling these breakouts, yet im bothered that my skin really is still breaking out. I wonder if I need to take more? Im still drinking ACV, but only about a tspn a day because now im kinda conflicted about how your not supposed to have it within a few hours to avoid it burning too much of the fish oil, and since I take fish oil at 3 times during the day, its near impossible.

So I dunno...what do you think about how much im taking? I have to rework my dosage anyways because I just bought a new bottle and its different. The bottle ive been using was 1000 mg of fish oil, EPA 180, DHA 120(which I was taking 12 pills a day of)....new one is 2400mg of fish oil, EPA 432, DHA 288, and for some reason this one specifically says that it has 720 mgs of omega 3 in it while the last one didn't say. Any recommendations?

ive been doing this since feb 20th so its almost been three months.

the first three weeks were the best i was also on tretinoin and a low sugar diet, then i got over confident so i stopped using all topicals and thought i could start eating sugar from friut again, two weeks later started breaking out. so i was learning that fish oil wasnt the cure all but god damn did it make my skin brighter and more moist and even seemed to help my acne breakouts, now im back on tretinoin and trying a 4:1 ratio of efas which i now determined to not be good for my acne so im doing like a 2:1 ratio because i have to start eating more fat to gain weight im just too skinny. Fish oil has its place in my regimen but its not a cure. I continue to take 15 pills a day and probably will for life. Im much healthier than i used to be.

as my experiance and evidence suggests that my acne is here to stay and not going anywhere and its only been getting worse for the last 8 years and is at its worst right now, Ive pretty much decided to take accutane. although my crazy regimen of a scientifically formulated diet helps decrease the breakout intensity, im still breaking out and perhaps the diet will change my condition in a year or so or perhaps i actually wILL grow out of it, the facts remaining are that ive lost years off my life and suffered too much so anything to decrease my chances of sufferring any longer, im going to pursue.

Might sound like a stupid question I'm about to ask, but nontheless I need a serious answer.

Today when I was grabbing my pills I went to smell the bottle, and it doesn't smell all that great in there. lol.

It smells, well it smells like bait you would use to fish. Obviously it's fish as well, but is this normal? Or have my pills become rancid?

Thank you very much. :)

Yeah, they usually do smell that way. Mine do, rancid test passes too.

Your o3 levels definitely seem to be building more and more. That happened to me as well. I used to get white heads, now it's generally not possible, as I haven't had one in months (knock on wood). But I do still get spots, though they are generally short lived like yours, and less frequent. After that phase, I started producing less oil. Now I am waiting to see if the excess oil completely stops. Though right now I am also doing various other things, but it comes to no surprise that a majority of the results were obtained by this and it is still because of this and nothing else (if in fact it happens).

It's just amazing how powerful our genetic inheritance is, that we have to do so much just to counter it.

As autonomous said, this is probably no cure (depending on the reason each person gets acne), but it sure as hell makes life a lot easier to bare. It may be so that even if we do everything we possibly can at 100%, we may be genetically just meant to have some acne. Not really sure, I don't know if anyone knows the answer to that, otherwise there would probably be a supreme regimen out there on what to do properly for everything. We still have a good few more months to see how much further it can keep going, but I can definitely without a doubt say I keep seeing more results as it hasn't hit a ceiling yet, but it's only apparent after looking back 2 weeks in time, at a time.

So if you want to increase your dosage, as you are asking, it would be your decision, I do believe it will build up levels faster (not sure to what extent does it gets excreted but I don't think it does).

Man im sorry to hear its not working too well for you anymore. Have you tried drinking ACV at any point? Ive wondered if ACV or Fish Oil has been having more of an impact on my face over the last couple months and haven't been able to decide....ive considered upping my ACV to see if that does the trick but that could cause me to burn too much fish oil, and if the fish oil is whats really working then that wouldn't help, so im kinda stuck as far as that goes.

Yeah thats true, maybe its just gonna continue to get better as time goes on...its definitely done that so far. I think im gonna continue to take 12 or lower it to 10 or something because these pills double the other ones more or less, I guess it cant do any harm. I need to think about changing the topical stuff I do though...im still using a sorta random benzoyl cleanser in the morning and a random sacylic(however its spelt...)cleanser at night....I tried using only Cetaphil for a couple days but I seemed to breakout from not using the chemical cleansers. Ive been exfoliating w/ baking soda too and some people say thats bad, so im not sure. And I use a Mint Julep Masque to help get rid of spots(and some benzoyl shit too)....and of course the ACV too but thats about the only thing im sure is good and helps. Wow, I didn't realize just how much shit I put on my face...hopefully I can eliminate some of that stuff or at least find some better options soon.
