Omega 3, 6, and 9 Fatty Acids

Recommended Posts

here is some advice to anyone considering trying the fish oil regimen.

when i first started out i took only two to four pills a day and saw a decent improvment over 3-5 days.

But the most rapid improvements ive seen in my skin were immediatly after i upped my dosages, this leads me to believe that the results are very dose dependant. So my idea is that it is very beneficial to take an initial high dose and then taper off slowly as you start to clear. assuming that this works for you which i can at least guaranty it will help.Because it has helped me and hopefully will cure me over the course of the next three months. And i cant its only been two weeks since i started this.

So please consider these dosages in combination of decreasing your omega 6 intake.

mild acne take 10-20 pills a day until you are clear then taper off to a maintenance dose of 8-10 per day

moderate acne take 20-30 a day until clear the taper off to 10-15 for a maintenance dose

moderate/severe take 20-40 a day until clear then taper off to 15 for maintenance

now this is just my opinion as i know some people may not agree to this, but i dont see any risks at all in taking 40 grams of fish oil per day because thats the equivelant to eating about 2 and a half pounds of salmon in a day and i think we can all agree that that would be safe, but everyone has different health issues and 40 pills may not be right for their situation. But this is just my recommendation.

well my pills say 1200mg total fish oil so that would be more then 1 gram per pill, its like 1.2 grams.

your pills may be different though but i wouldnt think so.

Well guys, my excess oil production is COMPLETELY gone overnight, not even one drop. My clean and clear sheets didn't even turn transparent in any area.

You can read about it here

http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php...t&p=1724897

I applied it, went to bed, and then that's it. It stays on for a few days too! But I'll still do it daily :).

 It is literally the best thing I've ever done in 10 years. I am so glad I read that thread, and I went and bought some immediately. Wow, it does wonders.

It leaves your face so soft and smooth and regulates the size of your pores to how big they should be and stops excess oil so well. Omg. wow.

I'll still be taking fish oil since my scalp is clear now too, no more acne there, and my back is improving. So until fish oil kicks in full force (it will probaly take 2 months with a 1:1 ratio) and stops acne completely, I am sticking to certain dri! It takes like 10 seconds too. No more excess oil production, WOOT.

I have never had this level of confidence today, it's amazing! I was like I never had acne, YEAAAA :dance:

I'm so excited, waking up this morning and seeing nothing, no oil, but just smooth soft skin, not even tight! Just normal skin that feels like heaven.

I can move on with my life now. WOOT

I will pretty much throw away all the shit in my drawer too, all the bp, peels, masks, sa, other vitamins, bs products, nose peels, etc etc etc. All that garbage. Now I just need my queen helene's oatmeal and honey daily gentle scrub which works as a cleanser and gentle exfoliator, and a bottle of lubriderm and aloe vera and I am done.

YES. Today is pretty much the best day in my life

hmmm.

Borage and primrose aren't necessary anymore, in terms of the main overall goal. I just take fish oil.

Before you do, do this

1) write down what an average day would be like diet wise

2) see what your omega 3 and omega 6 come out to be

3) Look for any reallly high omega 6 dense foods. The ones that are 4 times the amount in omega 3 is okay, that's usually normal. I am talking about foods that are 10 x the amount in omega 6 than 3. Try to replace that with something else.

4) Now, do the difference and calculate how much omega 3 you need. To find that out, look at the back of the fish oil bottle and see how much epa and dha are in each pill. Add them up, and you will get a figure. That figure is how much omega 3 is in each pill. Then see how many pills you need to add to your diet to get to 1:1. If you can't get to 1:1, then anything under 1:4 is fine. the 4 representing omega 6 and the 1 representing omega 3. But 1:1 is for serious results.

1 week to feel a difference

2 weeks to start seeing results

3 weeks to start seeing bonified results

I hear that at month 2, people actually never get acne anymore, but we'll see about that. It seems like I am on course for that as well in terms of acne all over body wise (chest back scalp)

I dont really get how to figure all this out.But im just taking 3 daily

Well then it probably won't work, considering the reason for taking it becomes useless.

Ok do this. This will tell you generally, Think about what you eat usually for breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks.

Write it down, then go to nutriondata.com

Look up each of the foods in the search feature. Click on it and you will see stats. Look at how much "Total Omega-3 fatty acids" and Total Omega-6 fatty acids" is there, it's at the bottom of the page on each item. Write it down.

Make a chart for a daily intake, much like how I did for my daily meals, and write it down and total it. Remember, you're just doing this to get a general idea about how much you need... you can fluctuate your food everyday.

See the numbers from the total after you add each meal up, and subtract the 06's from the 03's. Tell me how many mg's difference there is.

Let's say you get a 1,800 mg difference.

Now, look on the fish oil tablet bottle. On the back it says EPA and DHA. Add this figure up, that will get you how much Omega 3 is in each pill. Let's say there's 300 in each. That means 1,800 divided by 300 = 6 pills.

It only takes 20 minutes to do it, or get someone to do it for you, the difference is between having acne or not, you owe it to yourself to do it.

If you still don't want to do it, I would simply take 6 pills a day for good measure (2 per meal), and it should suffice most people's ratio's enough to regulate the quality of oil that they produce so they don't clog pores.

But seriously, try to figure it out, I know you're not young, and know simple math =)

well im not looking to like cure my acne with these pills or anything, im just looking to help reduce my inflammation.

Exactly, you must do it as best you can, otherwise it will probably do as good as not taking it all. But try it out, it's up to you really =)

Do it how you like, if it doesn't work, then feel free to take the 20 minutes to figure out what you need and then do it =) I wouldn't even wait, 20 minutes to stop acne and all your skin problems for good? I wouldn't think twice. You owe it to yourself

Post how many mg of omega 3 and 6 you have.

I'll see what the min you can take is and max. The overdose is not really possible. It's kind of like saying can you overdose on eating 3 teaspoons of regular unsaturated fat. lol, not really =) Remember, it's just oil, so don't worry. It's the type of oil to actually help your health =) But just post the figures

the first two weeks when i started taking fish oil i was on about 2-4 pills a day, on about the fifth day i had a headache when i got off of work so i took some ibuprofin and i my headache was absolutly completely gone in fifteen minutes. and when it started to go i felt it too, there was a period of about two minutes where it just immediatly faded and ive never had a headache go away so quick, it usually takes the ibuprofin at least 45 minutes to kick in and about 15-20 minutes before the headache is completly gone.gone in fifteen minutes flat is pretty impressive.

Another thing is i havent had a headache since i started mega dosing on fish oil.

I am about 95% confident this experiance is related to fish oil and an improved anti-inflamatory response in my body. But at the moment i dont even know what a headache really is to really connect it to fish oil. but ill have to look into it.

Sorry if I came across a little argumentative with my last post :), well I'm sticking to 3 pills and it is definately helping my skin in terms of the texture, its a lot more smooth, but I could never go up to the doses AutonomousOne1980 is suggesting (i.e. 20+) ... it just is not practical for the average person to be carrying those amount of pills everywhere you go, remembering to take all of them and thats before you even consider the cost.

I must also say, I feel much better now, because my oil production on my body has gone down to practically nothing. Now it's just a matter of time before it catches up to my face, which has also reduced naturally as well as decreased viscosity. I no longer get much or any zits in my scalp. And when I do, they are really small. I can't wait for week 3 to be up

DHA is well known to improve brain health, and DHA is in fish oil. So this is why you will have had no headaches when taking fish oil.

If you take omega oils dont forget to take a good antioxidant like vitamin e. Fats, especially unsaturated fats like omega 3 burn up in the body and create free radicals. It is important to take antioxidants to stop damage to cells, especially if you are going to be taking high doses of fish oil.

I'm approx 1 week in to taking Fish Oil and I have to admit, I DO see a difference in a few aspects: first, my inflammation of new acne is significantly lower and disappears almost over night. Second, the oil production on my face has been reduced, AND it looks more "glowy" than it does "greasy" like it used to. I really dig that part especially

I have less headaches, feel a bit more hydrated if that makes sense, and my skin definitely looks more supple. The fine lines that I have from sun damage are not as noticeable as they were over a week ago, they are still there but far less apparent. As xxndnromeoxx had said earlier in this thread: I <3 fishies!!

That is exactly what I saw/felt in the first week. The second week, it vanishes faster for some reason. Like whit eheads, within one week it is completely non-inflammed and flattens, leaving barely any blemish, but some.

Now the acne I get is so so tiny, if any at all. Which means, they won't blemish, and they dissapear. YES

I was having headache issues before taking the fish oil. Sometimes daily, the pounding variety that hurts more when you bend over. Since taking the fish oil I have had one, took some ibuprofen, about 15mn later - gone.

Ok - overall: It's been what, 9 days maybe? I forget. My skin is notably improved, for a few days maybe the 5th and 6th my skin was too dry, flaky, tight. I stopped washing my face twice a day, skin feels normal now. I have had a few zits, mainly in places I don't normally get them. Forehead, chin, nose & sides of nose. But they weren't very red, or inflamed. My acne, while not large in quantity, breaks the scale on inflammation. So this is great improvement. I continue to be impressed. Also, someone had mentioned weight loss while taking fish oil. I have lost weight as well, about 5 lbs. Can't say I mind ;)

where did you here that from?

from the studies ive read omega 3s have only been linked to positive effects on the body.

Never have i read that omega 3s lead to any cell damage. only omega 6s when not balanced with omega 3s.

fish oil improves the phospholipid bilayer on all your cells and improves their function.

fish oil when compared to a multivitamin, is just about the most important supplement ever. as you get plenty of vitamins from most food people rarely if ever get the right fats that their bodys need unless they eat fish everyday and eat red meat once a week.

also fish oil is supposed to increase insulin sensitivity making you burn more blood glucose in your cells providing more energy and not storing excess glucose as fat, and that also means since your bodys are more responsive to insulin you have less circulating insulin levels which means less igf-1 and igf-1 is not got for acne or retinoid function. also igf-1 is related to cancer development as it is a hormone and encourages unregulated cell growth.

SO with fish oil you are improving the function of every cell in your body.

Hes got a point about free radicals but its not necessarily just linked to fish oil. Every single thing we do creates free radicals. Even digesting food. More calories = more free radicals. Exercise? More free radicals. BP? Free radicals.

So...its a valid point, but no need to stress over it.

Yep, reason number 9,347 to increase fruit and vegetable intake with your n-3's.

I just wanted to make a quick note for anyone wanting to start or just check up:

I used to get an oily back, especially the shoulder area, and chest, in the middle and up top. Now I have no excess oil for 24 hours straight, that doesn't happen, ever.

Also, my hair used to fill with the gunk of all the hair grease from all that excess thick sebum. Now it actually moisturizes my hair and it shines well, and looks full and nice. I used to get acne in my scalp, but now it's completely flat and no acne at all, except for a couple of smallll red bumps, but the progress is startling.

The oil on my face is reducing quick. I am tempted to pause the certain dri to see how much it has gone down, and see if I can just be dependent on fish oil instead.

And finally, I started the green tea extract supplements. I don't know if there's a connection, but I am drier because of it. My lips are really dry, never happens ever.

I also started to eat omega 3 enriched multi-grain/whole wheat pasta a week ago. It's from healthy harvest. I eat two servings per bowl, so I get 720 mg more, plus 2 fish oil pills, 3 times daily after big meals. I go through two boxes per week exactly, and there are 7 servings per box

p2_MG_Spaghetti.jpg

So I am tipping my ratio on the omega 3 side, since I was at 1:1 already, but that's okay, I like it.
