Should I get a facial?

Recommended Posts

When I was a lot younger, my mom would let me get facials every now and then. They always seemed to help, and my skin would clear up. But at the time, I didn't really take care of my skin as much as I do now.

My skin is clearing up, I probably have 4 or 5 pimples right now. I was just wondering if I should get a facial? How often should I get one? Etc. Any advice would be helpful!

I'm going to an esthetician in a few weeks to get my eyebrows waxed and shaped, and was thinking about getting a facial while I was there.

Facials a great!!! As long as you trust your aesthetician. Sometimes if you go to the wrong person they can masacre your face. Otherwise it can be terrific for your skin! It is recommended you get a facial about 4 times a year or when the seasons change.

Are the pimples you have right now active? If you feel that your skin is in good condition right now, the time may be right to get a facial. She'll clean your pores out and loosen up anything that's brewing in your skin. If you have any blackheads or whiteheads she'll extract them. My facialist uses this very cool laser thing that kills (literally zaps) all the bacteria on the surface of your skin (it's very cool!). Overall she'll get the gunk outta there.

Gotta warn you though, if this is your first time you'll notice your face will look like a bit of a wreck for a few hours afterwards (so i do not recommend making any plans that day!). Your skin will likely be "in shock" and you won't really see the real results for maybe a week. But it is definately a good idea to go....! In the long run it'll be good for your skin if it's done right.

Good luck!

Facials are a big part of what got my skin cleared up. If you can find someone who has experience treating acne prone skin, that would be best. I would avoid those trendy day-spa places though - the skills of the people in those places are kind of unpredictable. I got mine done at an acne clinic that is run by an esthetician who specializes in treating acne. I got much better results from her than I did from the esthetician I used to go to. And what is amazing, is that my skin would actually look really good when I left the clinic - not red or irritated at all.

If you can find someone who knows how to do extractions correctly, you can get some really good results from facials. Take the time to shop around though, or see if you can find someone in your area who has recommendations from other clients.

I didnt even know there were such things as acne clinics  Maybe I should go to one and get a facial. My face really does look like crap. By the way tragic, have you gotten your facial yet and if not when do you plan on getting it done

There aren't very many of them. My esthetician is one of the few in the San Francisco bay area that specializes - she pretty much has the market cornered out here! She says it is rare for estheticians to specialize in treating acne (much less own an acne clinic!). She actually has one client who flies up once a month from southern California to get treatments! Fortunately for me, she is a 15 min drive from my house. How'd I get so lucky??
