microdermabrasion and 'superficial' scarring

Recommended Posts

i have some 'superficial' scarring on my forehead from acne. i have medium brown skin and acne has left some darker brown spots. i went in to see a specialist and she recommended that i undergo microdermabrasion to remove the upper skin layer in these areas (6-8 treatments). has anyone had this procedure done? how effective is it? will the scars come back? is there anything i should be concerned about? i used hydroquinone for a while and it worked a little, but it just takes too long. any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Be very careful, my sister had it done and she looked horrible, I mean literally terrible, her face was so beat red for days and just crusty looking stuff, it was nasty...

Now i have tried the home microdermabrasion kit, it's okay but not really worth the money..i stick with pro activ...

hi! i have had appx. 12 microdermabrasion treatments over the last few years, with good results for minimizing old scars (particularly in my chin area). it does work well for evening out the skin pigmentation as well. however, choose your aesthetician with care! many people take a quickie course in microdermabrasion and do not really appreciate the subtlety of dealing with acne skin that has already been exposed to exfoliating products. so ask around. find someone that has used these techniques for YEARS (not merely months or days). this may prove inconvenient, but you do not want to end up with a super red aggravated face. by the way, a light pinkness should result at the end of your treatment AT MOST! good luck to you...!

hey, I've heard of this home treatment microdeambrasion, youthful essence. Check it up on the internet. i've never tried it myself, but I am curious to see how effective it is. (I've heard raves about it... and it's gentle too.) Let me know if you try it.
