Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Recommended Posts

While searching Acne.org, I was directed to another site (acneinformation.org) that shows a list of the most common comedogenic ingredients. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is included in this list. I was suprised to see that this comedogenic is also listed as an ingredient in the Dan Kern's Regimen Gentle Cleanser. What gives?

Well, I'm the SLS expert on this site. I'm going to tell you that I'd probably think SLS is not comedogenic, but it still should be avoided in acne care products. You see, SLS is a cheap dispersant, which means it makes the stuff foamy and lathery, but it's used in everything from commercial concrete cleaners to your own shampoo. It's highly irritating, basically, but not comedogenic, so I would avoid it if I were you.
