Meat/Dairy Free Thankgiving Ideas!!!!

Happy Thankgiving!!

Just wondering what everyone did who was not using dairy or meat and what did they use as the main course.

I've seen veggie substitutes... that you pop in the oven and even comes with a "gravy."

I'm not attending thanksgiving this year. My family has become unbearable. I can't take their bullshit this year.

I'll be eating a vegetable dinner, salmon steaks, and a big glass of red wine.

Well, this will be the first year in ten that I'm going to eat turkey. :ninja:

But as a veggie, I often made roasted vegetables - potatoes, celeriac (celery root), turnips, rutabagas, golden beets, carrots, and onions covered in olive oil and herbs and roasted.

Serve with veggie gravy: (my mom now prefers this to regular gravy - it is pretty good)

8T oil

3-6 cloves garlic

3 slices yellow onion

8T flour (don't have to use wheat flour)

2 T nutritional yeast

4 T tahini

2 1/2 cups water

1/2 tsp sage

salt and pepper

1/4 cup red wine (opt)

2 T balsamic vinegar

6 sliced mushrooms (opt)

Heat oil and sautee onion and garlic

Add flour, yeast and tamari to make a roux. Be careful to not let it burn.

GRADUALLY add the water, stir constantly. With frequent stirring, allow gravy to boil and thicken. Add salt, pepper, mushrooms, wine and vinegar. Makes about 4 cups.

I also have a vegan pumpkin cheesecake recipe, and a vegan pumpkin pie recipe. However, both contain sugar and wheat.

This morning I made a sugar-free, grain-free pumpkin cheesecake with an almond crust and applesauce and stevia to sweeten. It most definitely isn't vegan though!

Happy eating.

Oh thanks for the gravy recipe.

I'll try it sometime when I make mashed potatos :)

We are trying to make rosemary flatbread and use that as a low carb pizza crust topped with all kinds of veggies :)
