Roche is notifying health care professionals and patients of an update to the Accutane (isotretinoin) iPLEDGE program, a risk management plan designed to reduce the risk of fetal exposure to isotretinoin. The change eliminates the 23-day lockout period for males and females of nonchildbearing potential. Previously, all patients who did not fill their prescriptions within 7 days of their office visit could not receive isotretinoin for another 23 days, a provision designed to prevent potential drug exposure during pregnancy. The elimination of the lockout period for males and females of nonchildbearing potential will allow these patients to have a new prescription filled immediately after the 7-day window has expired. The company noted that this change does not affect female patients of childbearing potential.

i know, it would have made more sense for them to eliminate the 7 day window for those of us who can't get pregnant but, i guess this is better than nothing.
