Somewhat of a ridiculous question

Is anyone actually a dermatologist on this board? It's something I've been considering to take upon as my career. However, my university doesn't really have a "dermatology" undergraduate program :P

I was just curious if anyone actually has gone to school for dermatology and what they majored in for their bachelors degree. Perhaps biological sciences?

Feel free to PM me or reply with any help or suggestions as to what majors I should have.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I didn't see anything else that would apply.

There's been 1 or 2 medics I think, don't think there's ever been a derm in the 2 years I've been here.

Quite a few researchers though, labgirl and bryan spring into mind.

Dermatology is a medical specialty. If you're interested in it, a good undergrad major is Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology or any life sciences major (though it really doesn't matter that much, because your MCAT scores and GPA are the most important factors med schools consider for admission.) At a bare minimum, 2 years of English, at least two biology classes (cellular or molecular biology and genetics), general chemistry, organic chemistry, and mechanics (and often electricity and magnetism) are the requirements for most medical schools. Then you have to go to medical school, get an MD, and then try to break into the field.

how old are you?

as shmelis said, dermatology is a specialist course and depending on what country, there might be different ways to enter it

most likely you will need a degree in medicine before you could tho

hey guys, yeah. I read a bit about it, basically i'd get into pre-med, medical school, then try to break into training and find a spot.

it's very competitive apparently.

also, i'm going on 20.

ha ha find a spot.. :D no pun intended. i wish there were some dermatologists here.. they wouldnt last more than a day though with all the pm's they'd get

and dont worry that you're 20 tony, people change careers all the time.. 20 is definitely not too old if thats what you're thinking. go for it.
