i'm new, little bit of accutane advise needed please

Recommended Posts

hi everyone, i'm new here, i just found these forums when i did an internet search on accutane.

i have an appointment with my derm tomorrow and at my last appt he told me that if the oral presciption he gave me last time didnt work, accutane would be our last option. so here we are at the next appt and my skin is just the same as before. thing is i was wondering what normally happens, i want to get on it straight away but do they have to do tests and things before my derm will prescribe the drug?

also, with my being female will i have to go on the pill for a month before being prescribed accutane? im single and am not likely to sleep with anyone anytime soon so will they trust me that i dont need to be fully protected before starting the drug?

i'd really appreciate some advice, im so fed up with having bad skin and im prepared for the long road ahead with this drug, i just want to get going with it now really.

any advice on the side affects too would be appreciated, we've probably all read the really negative things on the internet about this drug! i'm worried about my face drying out so much i wont be able to wear make up, as i never go out the door without make up on! the very thought freaks me out!

thanks in advance guys!

Since you are female you will have to wait at least 30 days to get accutane. you must have 2 negative pregnancy tests 30 days apart, even if you tell them you are abstinent. you can skip the birth control though but you will still need to get a pregnancy tests every 30 days.

Sometimes, if you are not a sexually active female, you don't have to wait the 30 day waiting period. It really is up to the derm. I would mention that you are not sexually active, just in case that its a derm that doesn't really care, then you won't have to wait.

As for the makeup, don't worry about that. You just have to make sure you are moisturized before applying it. I am going into month 3 of 5 and I wear makeup everyday, and totally understand where you are coming from.

The side effect I have dealt with are normal such as dry eyes, sluggishness, dry lips, and eczema (sounds a lot worse than it is, the derm gave me ointment and its fine!). All of these se are totally worth it to me! I feel if they aren't worth it to someone, then that person should not go on accutane-its as simple as that!

If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me.

K
