Ghostunit 130 Share Posted August 4, 2008 I started doing this a few days ago. I make mine with a handful of spring mix, a handful of spinach, wheatgrass, sprouts, 4 strawberries, and a peach. I think they taste pretty good, even though they're kind of an icky brown color. I have a very high tolerance for things other people think are gross though. doesn't matter how it taste , as long as u add leafy green.. , is healthy. :D i drink it every day , taste bad. , was my 3rd time making it.. :X
*`*~ABG Fairy~*`* 44 Author Share Posted August 4, 2008 i heard that thers no real relationship between diet and acne. But I'm sure you've heard from *more* people that there "is" a relationship between diet and acne, so why not give it a try and see for yourself? :) Souble, You can blend whatever you want. It would probably be a good idea to spread out all your produce throughout the week instead of doing them all at once (I've heard you can become allergic to foods you eat daily), but I'm sure either way is fine. :) Also, some people do have a hard time digesting veggies with fruit, so if the broccoli, carrots, etc bother you, leave them out. It's fine to blend leafy greens with fruit though. :) Eddie, Spring Mix is just fine, hahah. :) The best way to know if you'll like a certain blend of greens and fruit is to try it out yourself. I might love a certain combination, but you might hate it. Hang in there... it took me a few tries before I figured out how to make them taste right... some of mine in the beginning were really nasty and some had way too much fiber (I was using kale stems...agh!!!) In the beginning, think spinach!!!! Spinach, spinach, spinach. Once you make some you like with spinach, you can experiment with other greens... but by all means, use up whatever greens you currently have! :) Also, for some "stronger" flavored greens, try them with an apple, pear and a peeled lemon. Lemon really helps with greens that are a bit bitter tasting. Mars2008, Using scraps is fine, just be sure they look clean, as sometimes the ends of veggie stalks can be nasty. I usually cut off the ends. Also, you might find them to be too fibrous, but you'll find out soon enough. :) violet yr turning violet, Glad to have another happy green smoothie maker! :) Klein, Bluks and Dyl, Thanks for your very helpful and informative posts! :)
*`*~ABG Fairy~*`* 44 Author Share Posted August 5, 2008 ^Not at all... I just think too fibrous tastes like ground up cardboard. So for me.... it's a taste thing.

Rob2686 34 Share Posted August 5, 2008 I just made my first one today -2 handfulls of spinach -4 handfulls of mixed berries (blueberries, rasberries, manoberries?) -1 banana -water -2 TBSP EVOO It's so good :). Would adding in ACV or whey protein hurt it at all? Sounds like my favorite. It tastes JUST like the naked smoothie drink blue machine. I have never put ACV in mine. I'm going to start though since ACV has so many beneficial qualities.(and it tastes horrible in water)
*`*~ABG Fairy~*`* 44 Author Share Posted August 6, 2008 ^ Great smoothie! Adding ACV should be just fine (though you might not like the taste!), but whey is a dairy source, and dairy makes a lot of people break out, so keep that in mind. Instead of the whey, you could blend in some nuts/seeds for protein, like raw sunflower seeds, cashews, almonds, etc. It's alway preferable to get protein from real food sources. Glad you're making smoothies!
wakeboarder88 0 Share Posted August 6, 2008 It's a whey protein isolate so no dairy
Ghostunit 130 Share Posted August 6, 2008 finally made it taste kinda better.cause i didn't add enough greens... now i add alot and it taste better. , 2 handful of spinach 2 handful of spring mixhandful of Sunflower seeds rawa bit of Extra virgin olive oil and added some Cucumber staying with this recipe for a whileto see how it works.''next time will add 1 brazil nut.. just one cause i only eat 2-3 brazil nuts a day. eating 100% healthy not easy. >_>
psuboy 0 Share Posted August 6, 2008 These smoothies have drastically helped my skin. I have been clear now for about two weeks. I am so grateful and will continue to drink them on a daily basis. Thanks so much ABG Fairy for all of your wonderful insight and advice. Advice to everyone: Drink green smoothies like theyre going out of style!
Paul25 1 Share Posted August 6, 2008 How important is it to mix up your greens? Because alot of the time i find myself just using spinach, whilst some days i use kale. But those are the only two i can find in any of the local supermarkets.
teadrinker 0 Share Posted August 7, 2008 How important is it to mix up your greens? Because alot of the time i find myself just using spinach, whilst some days i use kale. But those are the only two i can find in any of the local supermarkets. these have stopped working for me altogether :ermm: but I will still continue to drink them everyday just because they are my only source of vegetables/they taste better than any cooked vegetables. Maybe I am just still detoxing, but I doubt it, I am getting acne on places that I have never gotten it before such as the sides of my nose (huge scary cysts) and also on my chest. I wish acne would go away. :(
what'sgood 0 Share Posted August 7, 2008 i posted this earlier but didn't get a reply. so here it is -i see so it's all right to have about 2 cups a day? i was thinking maybe one for the morning and one before or after workouts.have you ever tried adding brewed tea or cranberry juice to your smoothies? they might not give you any flavor boosts or anything (actually to think of it they would probably make the smoothie not as tasteful with the cranberry juice being very tart/bitter and tea is bland), but both contain beneficial ingredients to your health. *`*~ABG Fairy~*`* 44 Author Share Posted August 8, 2008 EddieE,How about adding an apple to your recipe for sweetness and a lemon for tartness? psuboy,Thanks for updating us on your progress! So glad you're still doing and enjoying the smoothies! You're probably one of the few here that gets to use home grown greens in their smoothies!! Paul25,It's recommending to mix up your greens, but I'll admit to doing mostly spinach lately as well, and all is fine. Just do the best you can - perhaps there's another grocery store you could check out? Having only spinach and kale is a really small selection of greens. Do they not at least also have romaine lettuce?Dyl,Sorry you're not getting the results you'd like. I'm not sure if I've asked before, but maybe we could discuss your diet and tweak it a bit for better results? Are you doing plenty of cruciferous greens like spinach, kale and collards in your smoothies?what'sgood,I'm so sorry I missed your post the first time around!! I don't know how I missed it!It's more than okay to have two cups a day. One in the morning and one after exercise, like you suggested, sounds like a great plan! Again, don't worry so much about how many cups you're getting but rather on how many leafy green servings you're getting, and if you're just starting out and want faster results, opt for 2 handfuls of leafy greens a day.Adding tea or cranberry juice (or concentrate, which would have less sugar) would be fine - really, you can add anything you like that you think might be beneficial (and fairly palatable at least! haha).
