Blotting oil and moisturizing

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I recall reading that skin produces oil in response to a lack of moisture; with this in mind, should I apply moisturizer after I blot? Will this at all decrease the obscene amount of oil my face is producing in the summer?

My skin produces the same insane amount of oil regardless of how dry or hydrated it is. Your hydration status is based on the amount of water within your skin cells (not how much oil). And we use moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated since bp is drying.

so, in my experience moisturizer doesn't directly affect the amount of oil my skin produces since that seems to be based on hormones and genetics.

If your skin is dry, sure add a bit more moisturizer, but it will not affect your oil glands at all. The only thing known to slow down oil glands is Accutane.

Yup, Brandy you are correct. I live it I should know. The skin on top doesnt know there is moisturizer there or not the sebaceous glands will pump out oil regardless. For me lotion will just add another layer of grease.

How do you all control the amount of oil your body keeps producing? I Have to wash my face 3 times a day due to the insane amount of oil my face produces!
