3 G's?!?! Holy.... how long were you on it??

My parents paid for mine when I was in high school so I have no idea how much it was. I'm trying to recommend it for a friend but she wants to know how much she'd have to pay.

rebelsgirl: What's Sotret? is that brand name? or no? & how much was that?

Thanks for all your replies, I appreciate it!

For anyone else who's reading this right now, please reply if you can!!!

Sortret is a generic form or accutane. There's also amnesteem (sp?) and claravis.

I'm taking sotret and I pay $50 a month for it plus $25 for derm visits. I looked it up with my insurance and it says that all the generic forms and the real thing would cost $50. Since my insurance only allows me to get generic unless my doctor asks for it specifically I got a generic. I also looked it up and I'll still be paying $50 for even though I'm going from 40 mg a day to 80mg a day.

With insurance 60 40mg generic pills is $5, and the brand name is $15 for the same supply. Doctor visits are fully covered.

I have been taking the generic stuff, and the pharmacy price tag without insurance is something like $550 for the 60 pills.

im taking accutane right now (actually amnesteem the generic type), and with my insurance the doctor visits are $20, and every month i pay $10 for a 30day supply of the generic type of accutane. i think i saw on my receipt that it said that without insurance it would have been around $450.

I paid about 4,000 for a 6 month course. I have insurance but I didn't have enough prescription coverage and had to pay out of pocket.

Wow, so I guess it really depends on the insurance you have.

Is generic accutane supposed to work less or something?

Again, thanks everyone for responding!!! <3

Yes, Sotret was the generic around here. I don't know how much it would have cost if we hadn't had insurance. He got a 30 day supply this time. The first of the month they only gave him 30 pills instead of the 30 day supply but it still cost the same. 15 dollars for generic.

I'd check with your insurance to see if they cover the medicine. I don't know why they'd cover the generic but not the name brand, I guess cost for them. But I'm happy with the sotret for my son, it seems to be working really well.

Generic is just as effective as brand name. Just cheaper.

i am sorry for you guys whos paying alot for accutane. I don't have insurance but even though i have they won't even cover prescription meds. I am paying 135$ for the generic brand claravis 40mg 30 pills and i am paying around $80 for doc. visit and 80 for blood test. Thats not that bad.

Without insurance Claravis=$400.00 for 60count 30mg pills!

With insurance=$5

If I didn't have health insurance through my work, I would probably go ahead and get a personal policy if I wanted accutane! The lab work, the doctor visits, and the meds would cost more than paying a $400/month policy!
