Glyclolic peels

I have tons of red/brown marks on both sides of my face and some on my forehead and chin/lips. So pretty much everywhere, but the most are on my cheeks. My acne is starting to get better from starting Differin again a week ago. I was using Dynacin also but I am allergic to the 'Tetracyclines' so it make me very very sick. So anyway, I wanted help for my red & brown marks hopefully over the summer. I talked to a specialist and she said that glycolic peels would make a difference. She was talking about a set of 6, 2x a week for 3 weeks or 1x a week for 6 wks. I have a few questions.

- Would once or twice a week be better? I'm kind of in a rush, but would time to let it settle give it more effect?

- Do these hurt?

- Are they effective?

I really know nothing about them. I have tried researching but it came up with practically nothing, just people selling stuff. If anyone can give me advice it would be greatly appreciated.

PS she said that being in the sun makes marks worse/more dark and that wearing 30-40SPF sunscreen would help prevent that. is this true?
