Antibiotics for transition to Accutane

After a major mental breakdown about two weeks ago, I finally went to see a derm and asked her to put me on accutane. I told her that I had never been on anything prescription-strength, but I wanted to go on accutane right away because I had had enough of this dirty face. The doctor did not decline my request, but told me that I would have to wait for a month anyway for two negative pregnancy test results before I could start taking the drug. She prescribed Doxycycline - an antibiotics, and told me to wait patiently until one month later.

I started taking Doxy a week ago. I noticed that those giant cysts on my face have been calming down. I'm under a lot of stress lately, and could not resist the temptation of drinking coffee. Good news is, I have not gotten any major breakouts after having a cup of coffee or two. I think the antibiotics is working, but I understand that once I stop taking it, those pus-filled giant cysts will soon come back. Last night I looked into the mirror and thought, maybe I don't have to go on accutane? My face now is nowhere near clean. There are still cysts, whiteheads and marks, but less painful. I'd be kind of happy for it to just heal slowly like this. However, I know that this is only a band-aid solution. Doxy is not a cure. I will have to go on accutane eventually, and I'd rather do it soon. This is my last few months in college. I can choose to suffer through these few months and the summer, and have a new self the I start grad school in the fall.

Anyway, I've become much more social even after my face only cleared up a tiny bit. I'm actually head out for dinner with friends tonight - which never happened before with those people. I'm genuinely happy.

Thanks for the warning and suggestions. I've lost all hopes for topicals and natural remedies. I know all of the side effects that could result from taking accutane, but I'm willing to take the risk. I have been suffering fro seven years without the help from a doctor. Now my skin is horrible enough to be put on the craziest drug one could possibly take for acne, and I'm doing it. All drugs are dangerous. Life itself is dangerous. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest:).

It is okay to use a drug if it benifits you in a way. Accutane has side effects, but wonderful benifit too, so it is worth it.

I came here by accident. I applaud that you're trying to take steps to cure your acne and I agree with you that the 'natural' method never worked for me either. I took Accutane but had to stop because of the side effects I was experiencing.

Try one last thing before you take it, try B5 + NAC+ Zinc:
  • 2-3 grams/B5 (split half in morning and half at night)
  • 1-2 grams of NAC (split half in morning and half at night)
  • 2-3 grams/Vitamin C
  • 50 mg/Zinc (half in morning and night)
  • 2-3 grams of ALCAR (split half in morning and half at night)
You could raise the B5 dose even higher if you're seeking faster results and risky, but it's typically not needed. B5 helps with metabolizing fats, carbohydrates, and balancing hormones. L-cysteine is a liver protectant, detoxifier, insulin sensitizer (insulin is heavily involved with acne). Zinc has been proven to be therapeutic for acne and actually has been compared to antibiotics in efficiency in terms of acne; this is by far one of the most important elements. ALCAR synergizes with B5 to enhance the effect (optional).

Try this. It's guaranteed to help your acne greatly and you may never need to use Accutane. I'd love to show you studies but don't want to make this long.

At least, if you'll try one thing from this list: try zinc. It'll help your acne.
