My Acne Journey

I have been posting many things in the forum looking for advice and help for the last few weeks. So I thought I might as well start a blog.

Here's detail about my acne and what Ive done to try and fix it:

I have never had acne all my life until I turned 19, it gotten much worse when I went away to Europe this past summer.
I have no clue what caused my skin the break out , as I was on the same birth control since 14 and using the same cleaners (dermilogica) since I was 14 as well.
When I got home it presciently got worse . I wanted to see the dermatologist in my home town , but my doctor wouldn't refer me till we tried "everything" even actutane ( this made no sense to me , as I trust my doctor but he isn't a specialist in acne..) He also said it would take 6 -9 months to get into the derm.He gave me a cream and said give it 6 weeks (BP).  Im not a patient person and this was taking a toll on me, So I went to a dermatologist in Toronto which is 2 hours from where I live. She prescribed me a cream(a different BP), a change of birth control and a blood medication of some sort, and also told me to start using neutrogena acne wash ( it was leaving a film on my face and wasn't improving my acne at all after 2 months of use). The files never got to my doctor , which makes no sense . So whatever she prescided to me( other then the cream), I never got. I demanded that my home doctor changed my birth control ( as its not one targeted to helping acne) They did but at the time I was nervous of Yaz or Yasmin so I asked for one similar but not as "scary" in the media eyes. This was a stupid move by me , as the one they gave me hasn't done anything good for my skin and Ive been on it for 4 months. After all this topical cream and change of birth control , I started losing hope.  The birth control change did nothing for my skin , and the topical's just irritated my skin worse. ( I have very sensitive skin now)

Then someone told me they went to a local natural path and figured out they had allergies that caused their acne. This was intreginging to me. Of course I went and the natural path doctor thought it was an allergy . I had 2 options , 6 weeks of an elimination diet to find out if I had allergies or pay 280$ to have a blood test to find out in a week or two. So I lasted 10 days on the elimination diet and caved into paying for the blood test. I found out I have many allergies to foods , including that nasty dairy that everyone seems to suggest causes acne , wheat , gluten, peanuts , almonds and a few others. I cut out dairy a week before going to the natural path as I read many things online about dairy being terrible for acne . But I wouldn't have ever known I was allergic to some of these things if it wasn't for the blood test. I also had my blood checked for my Iron levels ect. , as Ive been feeling very weak( the natural path suggested this blood test). Low and behold I have low iron and b12..  I have been supplementing Iron for 4 weeks now and Vitamin A , C , E and Zinc for 7 weeks , I have had one shot of b12 each week and now once a month going forward.  Also four weeks of not eating anything I mean absaloutly ANYTHING that contains any of my allergies . My diet is very strict , it was annoying at first but now Im use to it.

Now what I put on my face. After dermalogica stopped working , I went to the spa and they sold me this very expensive 300$ kit vivierskin. It did nothing for my skin, just as I figured. After that I went back to using dermalogica because its not as expensive as that stuff. It also did nothing for my skin either , so when i went to the dermatologist in Toronto I told her what I've used and asked what the best thing was for my face and she said don't waste your money the expensive products don't usually work any better then the cheaper ones. Use neutrogena! So I went out and bought it right away lol! I used it for two months morning and night and as I said it left a film on my face , so I was worried this was clogging my pores not helping clean them out. Then I started researching acne skin care systems. The 1# that pops up of course is proactiv . I gave proactiv a couple of weeks (yes I know not long enough ) It made my skin soft but didn't help my acne in the two weeks , around the 2 week mark I had a terrible breakout on my chin.. So I looked online again for any other treatment! What came up was Exposed Skin Care. So I ordered it. Ive now been using it for 4 weeks and my face is the worst it has been in my entire life. Im scared to look at myself in the mirror . I contacted the company to ask how long the IB is because it does advertise an IB for roughly 2 weeks on the info they give you in the kit, but they told me give it 5-6 weeks . I asked more then once because I just didn't understand why the  info they sheet says the IB is 2 weeks an then the 4th week is supped to have less breakouts and more healing of the skin. I know everyones skin is different but they shouldn't advertise this and then say different!  Im starting to really lose hope on my skin and myself.

2 weeks ago My doctor prescribed me tetracycline , and a walk in doctor prescribed me doxycycline within one week.. I was searching for answers! I wanted anything to help clear my skin , but I refused to take antibiotics as Ive heard nothing but "it comes back after the use of antibiotics". So I wasn't risking that happening! I once again asked to see the dermatologist in my home town, my home doctor said no, it will take you 6-9 months to get in and we haven't tried everything yet! . But the walk in clinic said okay , I will send the referral in . I got in within a week!!! I was very excited , but then I went and was disappointed . I was told that because my acne all of sudden happened without an explanation , I will have it for life. He prescribed me spironolactone . He said this will help reduce the acne around my jawline area. I don't have acne just around my jawline though. I asked him to change my birth control as well but he said we should wait as we won't know what is working if we change the birth control as well. So I was on 25mg for 2 weeks and yesterday changed to 50mg a day. I haven't seen any difference yet but that could be because exposed keeps breaking me out!

I asked on the forum what everyones favourite cleanser is , so I bought cetaphil gentle cleanser . I used it once in the morning , while continue exposed at night and Im not sure about it.. So I just continued with exposed as Im worried that their will be a "better" with exposed after the 5 weeks that they told me to wait. But Im losing hope on that as Im getting pimples all over my face now. I ordered Aqua Marina cleanser from lush today as well, I was referred this product on here and read great reviews on it. Im not going to use it till after 5 weeks on exposed which is Jan 13th 2017. So I will give an update after the 5 weeks !

My acne has brought a rainy cloud over me that won't ever leave. I tried to be positive so many times , and every time I do my acne gets worse. I am most defiantly depressed and my doctor is concerned about my mental health , so I have seen a social worker a few times. But in all honesty it doesn't solve the acne that is causing me to be depressed , its a consent battle. Over the past year I know I have made my face mush worse then it was to begin with , but picking at it , thinking/looking at it all the time. Changing my skin care up ect...

Here is a photo from September 2016 and a photo of today. I have blurred out my eyes .. creepy but I don't want my face all over like this..

Hey!
Firstly, are these recent pictures? If yes, I literally see no reasons of being sad/depressed. Of course it will effect you because it all was unexpected and quick but uh... Your skin is beauty. This is nothing, some people have acne all over their faces and there is nothing wrong with that, everybody's different, right?

I see you have tried many different things and that's unhealthy in that kind of short period. Your "breakout" might be caused because of the products you have been using - maybe? And stick to an healthy diet like you are doing now and avoid all the food you react bad to.

It might be bad bacteria in your body which are causing all of this. I am on antibiotics (Tetracycline) and have used it for 3 weeks now - I see improvements. Indeed people get their acne back after stopping antibioitcs but many people quit right after their skin is cleared up. You are supposed to use antibiotics after the results too for a certain amount of period to kill the bacteria which still exists. Keep in mind, antibiotics are not healthy, you can face a lot of short-term side effects such as painful headache, depression, lost of strength (No energy during the day) and many more - I have almost experienced all of them but most of them lasted 1 week. I have been depressed too, idk if I can blame it on the antibiotics. My acne has messed up my mental health but in the end of the day it will fade away. Don't worry and give tetracycline a go - it is much safer than accutane (Which is never reccomended if you are under depression). Your skin is good so just be glad :) I hope this helps you and hit me up with updates

Hey! Thank you for being so nice , but this is extreme acne for me. It is also all over my face ( nose , checks , chin , forehead , in between eyebrows ect.). The first two pictures are in Sept 2016 when my acne started and the other two are from today. I will share a couple of pictures of what my face looked like two years ago , without make up , just so you have an idea of why this is horrific for me. One picture was in the winter and one is when I was on vacation .  I never wore makeup. Also I have been using this one product for a solid 4 weeks , everything else was longer other then the proactiv. I will consider the tetracycline , I haven't seen any fading of it , just worsening but I will try to remain as positive as I can. Im glad you found something thats helping your acne!

You have mild acne and almost nothing of it. Mild acne is the most non-dangerous one if I am right. Dont worry at all, it will be allright. The more you stress about it the more will it be, its truth. I cant get my mount away from my issue either and I am not having a good experience. It sucks, really does... Having a bad time is a part of life and you have nothing near "bad acne" but I can understand you for sure!

I feel your pain girl, im 32 years old and my acne is at worse now than ever! mine was so mild before I went on minocycline I HATE wearing cover up HATE IT I miss my clear skin so I can go out feeling confident and not worry about make up, im going to go see a dermatologist in April I heard shes one of the best in Toronto, whatever it takes I will do , laser etc, but I think minocycline (still taking it) is just not working anymore for me, I never had zits on my jaw now I do its horrendous and depressing =( I can't take Accutane and to be quite honest I don't think I would I hear about these horror stories and what it can do to your body and well I want to try for kids soon so Accutane is definitely a NO.
anyways I hope you are doing better and you get clear soon, I hope I do too I miss being happy and not stressing over this, this condition is horrible,
keep in touch with your progress =(
