Accutane Day 12

After weeks of obsessing over these blogs, I decided I may as well go ahead and create my own. I need somewhere to vent (even if no one see's this). Everyone I know has nice smooth skin, and simply can't understand how bad acne can mess someone up.

Anyways, I'm a 17 year old male who has been trying to treat my acne since age 11. I have tried EVERYTHING, and was recommended to go on Accutane over a year ago. However, it's a scary drug that can mess you up, so only after acne truly destroyed my self-confidence did I decide maybe it's worth the risk.

Currently I am taking 40mg of Absorica everyday, and have reached day 12. My derm gave me prednisone to eliminate the IB, however I've still gotten one. I'm scared to think how bad it would be without the prednisone. I've gotten cysts covering both my cheeks, and of course one beautiful big one in the middle of my forehead. My nose is covered in blackheads, and my chin/lips are covered with whiteheads. I'm happy I started this in between semesters, but I'm still very nervous about going back to school next week, as I doubt my skin will be any better by then (fingers crossed though).

As for side effects, all I've gotten are dry eyes and VERY dry lips. I've been trying to use aquaphor to combat it, but it doesn't seem to be very effective. I've heard good things about Dr. Dans lip balm, so I ordered it off amazon today. I'm counting down the days for it to arrive.

If anyone actually does read this, I'll be sure to update it every week. It felt good to write all this out.

I am glad you wrote that, thank you.
I dont understand, you have been dealing with this shit for so many years? I have been fighting against in for a year now (At summertime my skin was smooth, just as a baby. Near wintertime it got messy again, just as last year). I have so many bad thoughts and my self-confidence said good bye long time ago. I feel embaressed to take the bus or just be outside with friends/family. Accutane is hardcore but it works. I havent tried it yet since my doctor said my skin isnt "so" bad, so the long-term side effects are not worth it. I am happy you finally made a good choise. It is risky for sure but in the end of the day its worth it. You wont feel constantly depressed because of your skin (Even though accutane is well known for it's suicidal thougts). Dont let those thoughts hit you. Good luck from me, mate! I wish nothing but the best for ya :)

Thanks! I think you're making the right choice holding off for now. It's good not to instantly jump to accutane, and there are plenty of other treatments out there which work for many people which are worth trying first. I wish you luck!

Indeed, I should give it a bit more time and try other treatments firstly. There are just too many of them to be honest, so it is pretty hard to pick the right one.. Accutane is known to reduse/remove all kind of acne but it is more dangerous than the other treatments. In the end it is worth it tho
