Epiduo Journey! MUST READ if going on this perscription. Journey & Tips.

so in january i used tactuo/epiduo for about 5 months and it totally cleared my skin but didnt stop occasional purging until the third month, so since my skin was clear i slowly cam off of it and my skin was nearly perfect for about 3 months and after using a pore clogging product (noxema for moisturizer) my whole face is full of clogged pores and now theyre turning into  pimples and it is an absolute nightmare! so i brought out my new bottle of tactuo/epiduo and started using it again, im on day 2 right now and havent experienced any dryness yet... only a tiny bit red. my biggest concern/question here is... will i have to go through the 3 months or reddness, dryness and purging ALL over again? this is the only thing that has EVER worked for me so i guess have no choice anyways. when i got my hormones checked the doctor told me that they were fine and my acne was not hormonal which was extremely concerning because i am very very active, i exercise almost everyday i play high level soccer and i eat mostly organiz and very very healthy so what gives? its been 2 years and ive never figured it out. my acne is a big mystery. i might have a little more stress than the average person (mostly due to acne) but other than that i am completely lost on what could be causing this. i use mineral makeup, drink tons of water, use cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer and thats about it. has anyone gone back to epiduo for a second time? what happened when you did?

its been 3 days and im already purging... alot! hopefully this ends soon, almost no redness/peeling/burning on my face... yet. only now am i realizing the extent to which my pores were clogged because now i see them all coming up to the surface! tactuo is pretty awesome because it brings out the pimple so fast and then after you pop it, it heals within a couple days. my skin overall has a dried out look as well, i guess i do need some time for my skin to get use to this again. wish me luck!

if i use it twice a day will it take less time to go through this process? as long as it doesnt start burning my face or anything....

so i made the same mistake AGAIN.... after i wrote my first post I had stuck with epiduo for about a year because I was too scared to come off of it.... and then i came off of it again because I was confident that THIS time i can control my skin and if anything happens I will know how to handle it. HOURS AND HOURS of researching dumb stuff like OCM and crazy home remedies for my small pimples... i ended up clogging all my pores with argan oil. Then i was using harsh exfoliantes to get rid of them (didn't work at all)...Then came a point I was using a drying moisturizer and an activated charcoal face mask and pixi glowtonic (glycolic acid 5%) all in one day and my skin was DEHYDRATED and scaly and red ... so what did i do? i put moisturizer of course... ALOT of it. The worst part is this moisturizer wasn't non-comedogenic like the package says it was (olay moisturizing lotion for sensitive skin). It always seemed a bit too creamy and rich to be non-comedogenic but i trusted the packaging and put it on. Now i have painful painful red pimples everywhereeeeee. Even places that i never breakout like my forehead and cheeks. it's NYE today so i guess after today i'm gunna start epiduo again. wooooooo, cheers to 2018 where ill be spending the first 3 months in my bedroom with a dry peeling purging face, happy new year! ps. I will be using epiduo for the rest of my life don't know how im going to come off it when I become pregnant one day. #emotionalsupportneeded

This time I will post a week by week review for anyone interested, I'm starting day one tonight after NYE festivities

just some info. for anyone interested in going BACK on epiduo. Get a fresh prescriptio!!!! This is my 3rd time starting epiduo and i feel a SIGNIFICANT difference in the potency of a newly prescribed epiduo and one that is 4-6 months old. In my experience, the expiry date is completely irrelevant. You need to start with a FRESH one, and then after that you should get a new one every 4 months. If you get a new one after four months and start a new one you will experience a very very small purge (1 week), because it was almost as if you stopped using it after the  4 months. It still dries out your skin but the strength of the key actives (BP and AD) are very weak and they will not clear beneath the surface effectively.

Also, (more advice), if you try to put too much on or put it on more than once a day (at night), you WILL damage your skin, do not underestimate the strength of epiduo. It does not mean that it will work faster or that your getting everything out faster, you are CAUSING more acne (that might not have been there anyways even through purging) because of the over irritation you are causing your skin. I know it's hard to stay patient but you have to look at the big picture.... max. 12 weeks, and the rest of your life (if maintained with epiduo sparingly after clearance), you will have clear skin. It is MORE than worth it. To make it easier I started this at a time where I knew I'd be super busy with school anyways (don't see people as often and the workload makes the time go by a lot faster). Been through hell and back with epiduo and I still LOVE IT. The anxiety of not knowing whether something will work or not is GONE. I KNOW this will work if I give it time, it's just a matter of keeping busy and letting it do its thing. Also, if you want this to work faster, you have to start eating clean, exercising regularly, drinking lots of water, and SLEEPING properly. You still have to do all these very important health habits to support your skin health and your immune system so that the acne purging can have a little help in healing. Plus this stuff makes your skin look prettttttyyyy bad in the first few weeks so try to make everything else in your appearance look as good as possible (just being honest).

going on my 6th application of epiduo tonight and my face broke out alot only because when i started it there was a lot of already existing pimples, or just under the skin pimples, some seem to be flattening, becoming less inflamed. With all the whiteheads popping up it's so hard not to pop them but I realized that since epiduo speeds up the lifecycle of the pimple so much... if you just resist popping or picking for about a day it will flatten and go away, or pop itself without you even noticing. Also the ones that i did pick at and pop are the ones that are by far the most red on my face. Lesson: DON'T PICK unless it is very very ready to come out (basically coming out of you face a millimetre) then you can safely do so with clean hands, wash your face and apply epiduo and your good! My skin is looking a little better with less active pimples, however I know that this process can be amazing one week and hell the next! So fingers crossed that this was the worst of it. It is by no means near good enough to go out without a ton of makeup... but better.  :)

applied for the 9th time this morning... and my face is DRY, and very sensitive, i like it though because the pimples are also drying out and flattening... when first starting epiduo you will have a lot of pimples coming to a head, whether you pick at them or not they will leave a mark (worse if you do), then there will be a point (about 3-6 weeks in, where you will have alot of pimples AND alot of scaring. this is the worst of it, after about the 6 week mark pimples will increasingly lessen and as time goes on all the acne marks will be fading... then you will have ONLY flat acne marks that will fade with time, this last phase is after around the 8 week mark). Entering my second week of epiduo now which is probably the worst of the purging, wish me luck! again these have been MY experiences, everyone's skin and skin care regime/lifestyle is different, please keep this in mind.

The ones I've picked are SO red.... i think i've learned my lesson. Also, stress, diet and sleep are important. The more you take care of yourself the quicker this process will be.

APPLICATION 10 UPDATE! Got a few new pimples coming to the surface today but nothing especially huge or painful scars from the past week slowwwwwwwly fading. I remember the 2nd week being one of the worst by far so here we go! Basically, i just wake up wash my face, moisturize, put makeup on and go about my day. As much as i enjoy no makeup days, sometimes wearing makeup can boost your confidence and prevent you from picking or touching your face! be discipline. In the evening I wash my face and apply epiduo righttttt before bed and don't think, worry about or stare at my skin. Purging can be hell or it can be hell x103482034810.... the difference depends on your habits. stick to a routine, ignore the acne and the time will flyyyyyyy by! ALSO... I'm picking up a new foundation today... its the BAREMINERALS barepro liquid foundation. It's suppose to be full coverage and NON-COMEDOGENIC. I'm going to test it out and tell you guys what I think. Normally I have combination skin but right now my skin is obviously a little more dry than usual and my mineral powder is just accentuating it way too much, hence the liquid makeup. but YA! I'm gunna take a break unless something big happens and report back at the END of week 2.

If anyone's reading this and has any makeup tips to share with me i'd appreciate it!

HEY.... so i officially finished two full weeks on epiduo and... my face looks pretty bad... like badddddd, breakouts everywhere from my nose down. I'm trying really hard to stay positive about the process but it sucks when you're constantly cancelling plans with friends because at this point even with makeup on it looks very bad if not worse with makeup. I'm not experiencing any dryness (very little redness).. a few days ago i was only because i applied it twice in one day and then again the next morning (dont do this lol it hurt and it made me skin look scaly.. so gross). but yeah. kinda sucks but at least i can distract myself with schoolwork! update on the makeup^ i didn't buy it because when i put it on my hand at sephora to test it it was VERY dry and a weird texture so i just thought no way i can buy this... so instead i bought NARS concealer which is non-comedogenic and ive been loving it, it is very pigmented and hides redness well... then i put  on bare minerals original powder foundation (also non-comedogenic) and i'm currently looking for a good setting powder because after a few hours my face gets very very oily from my moisturizer. Cetaphil moisturizer is amazing and non-comedogenic but man is it greasy on the face... maybe i'm putting too much? not sure. I'd rather be a little greasy then have something clogging my pores. so yeah. my face looks the worst it has looked since i started epiduo, hopefully the purging slows down soon! I'll update again on sunday at the end of week 3! <3

I'm going to say this again but DONT PICK. i mean it. I had a huge breakout this weekend and there were about 5 medium sized pimples on my chin and they were STICKING OUT of my face. ready to pop but they were tender so i could tell that if i popped them that it would bleed and there was a lot of them. Since i didn't want any more deep red marks or scabs on y face i left them. went to bed. woke up the next morning, worked out, showered and half of them were gone, just a red mark, no blood or anything. I think they came off gently when i washed my face. but all im thinking now is THANK GOD i held off and didn't pop them. :) thats all.

if they do come up put a small blob of epiduo on them overnight, it will dry them up and they were come off naturally.

omg this purging is f*cked... excuse my language but omg... i came home today and i literally had 8 new whiteheads pop up.... 5 of which were on my neck :smileys_n_people_76:. And the thing is i already had so much pimples and PIH already...I REALLY hope this is the worst of my purging because i almost cant handle this and i have a birthday party to go to saturday. ugh. I popped a couple of them because they were VERY white and sticking out my face a centimetre. The reason I'm getting acne on my neck is because when i did the OCM it clogged my pores EVERYWHERE, and i would rub a lot of the oil all over my neck including using the oil as a moisturizer... hemp seed oil, castor oil and jojoba oil... all turned out horrible for me.

still in the midst of purging at 4 FULL WEEKS. i hungout with my friend last night which i am so proud of because i seriously havent seen friends in so long. Starting week 5 tomorrow and my overall skin texture (clogged pores) are beginning to dissapear, but i find that the better the texture gets the more i purge!? The difference between my pimples now and my pimples during week 3 is that they come in singles, not in clusters. I have been popping them because they get pretty big pretty fast (overnight), so every time it comes up i safely pop it, wash, epiduo, moisturizer. So yes, purging still pretty bad i get a new small pimple everyday and every 4-5 days i get a surge of like 4-5 white heads. It has gotten slightly better but still overall horrible! lol hoping by the six week my skin is at least all flat!

NEW DISCOVERIES

1) Cetaphil Moisturizer with GREEN LID
-SUCKS... very greasy and doesn't soak into your skin at all
-as soon as i switched to cera ve PM, my clogged pores significantly decreased (in a day)

2) Bare Minerals Bare Pro Foundation
-AMAZING!, doesn't cause breakouts or clogged pores at all, shine free, last long,
-Con: not the besttttttt coverage, its medium coverage i usually put physicians formula foundation over top because this really covers the bigger bumps and the redness completely, use them together is great tho!

HEY. so i'm about half way into week 6... things that ive learned is that if you're going to exfoliate your skin make sure its very little, once a week, and also try and use very little epiduo that night. if you're past 4-5 week and your skin is itching, it is probably dry (more moisturizer!)... ALSO, since its SO cold outside right now where i live, my skin is very very dry combined with the epiduo is horrible. SO, I've switched out the bare minerals bare pro for almay concealer which is GREAT for hiding redness, even more than the bare minerals foundation and i also don't need to use as much to cover. as far as the acne goes, i've noticed ever since i started week 5 none of my pimples has been painful or big... i'm still purging but it's WAY less, it's a single pimple popping up here and there, it's significantly smaller, not deep or painful, and after popped heals quite quickly. a good way to put it is that my skin still looks awful but it is not as bumpy or angry or red. before week 5 i looked horrible even with makeup, and now my makeup can easily hide everything and goes on smoother! pleased with the results so far, i think i've finally gotten over the initial hump of epiduo. Hoping it only gets better from here!

i think.... my makeup is causing breakouts... i didn't wear makeup for a week and my skin seemed to be getting better and then for the past two days i wore my bare minerals and 6 PIMPLES popped up and the texture of my skin didn't seem as nice... going to switch to powder only foundation like i use to do in the past and see if that helps... the other two times i went through the epiduo journey i was alot farther along with my acne than i am now so i really hope its not because of the makeup because that would really really suck. it covers everything so well. i dont know how im going to go out in public without it tbh. ugh. acne sucks. SOS.

i know its been a while... lol my life's been really busy and ive also been a little discouraged with this treatment... every time it gets better i'm like "yes! its finally over now the marks just need to fade.." and then the next day a few more pop up... whenever i get pimples no they're TINY and really annoying, mostly along my jaw line and chin area... also, i started exfoliating more than once a week and little bumps started coming back on my forehead (i'm going to stop exfoliating all together i think it's too drying/irritating to my skin), the pimples i'm getting now i think are from irritation from liquid makeup/ sweating with makeup on and harsh exfoliating an washing my face in my HOT shower... (love my how showers lol) So... I'm going to try and perfect all my little bad habits and see if that will get me from 85% clear to 100% clear! p.s. still using cera ve PM... its pretty greasy but I'm so scared to try any new ones... even if others say non-comedogenic.... they still clog/irritate my skin... sigh... lol. REMEMBER this isn't a linear process, it will be very on and off, but it is consistently slowing down which is good!!!

Hey... me again. So I’m still not 100% clear. I think the efficacy of the epiduo was being affected by leaving it in my shower... moisture in the air... steam... etc.

So im leaving it in my room now.  Got a FRESH. Perscription and I am already purging which means the old one I was using wasn’t doing shit!

Cleansing with cetaphil
moisturizing with avene tolerance emulsion
and putting on epiduo after cleansing
let’s see how this goes!!!

Hello! I was in the same position of thinking of starting Epiduo again, but was scared about the purge. I was clear for 3 months as well and now they are slowly coming back after I got a treatment done from an esthetician called "CBD Oil Rejuvenate" it was supposed to help with pitted scarring, hyperpigmentation, and acne. However, all it did was break me out with cystic acne.

Anyways, thank you so much for being consistent with your updates. I really appreciate it, you have no idea!

How's it going now?

May I contact you via social media? FB, snapchat, IG, e-mail, anything? (if you're not too active on this site)

Tbh, I just want to be able to talk to someone about these treatments and their experience on a more personal level vs. forum.

If you break out after an oil treatment and you have taken antibiotics, you very likely have fungal acne caused by malasezzia fungus, notordinary acne. Malasezzia feeds on organic oils.

Dandruff is caused by malasezzia, so if you have dandruff, break out after putting organic oils on your skin, and you have taken antibiotics, then you almost certainly have fungal acne caused by malasezzia, NOT ordinary acne.

The safest and best treatment for fungal acne is topical antifungal cream/s and anti-dandruff shampoo. Get back to me if you would like further information.

I suspect that the so-called purging is actually the fungal acne breaking out, due applying oils and moisturiser, which contains organic oils.
