Week One / Backstory

I have been dealing with acne since I was about 14, and I am 24 now. I tried every antibiotic, topical, pill, gel, cream, facials and even accutane at age 15. Accutane worked WONDERS. I had beautiful clear baby soft skin in a matter of months. I never wore a drop of makeup. Then somewhere around the age of 20-21 my skin got dramatically worse. I began getting stubborn cyst-like pimples that wouldn't go away no matter what I did. I cut out dairy, became a pescetarian, took tons of vitamins daily, switched to all organic products, got facials/peels/microdermabrasions, did teatoxes, saw a few different derms, tried different birth control pills, different cosmetics, different "acne systems" from ulta and sephora... I mean... the list goes on. If you made it to this website, chances are your acne is really really bothering you. I know when I first stumbled across this site I was at a point where I really didn't even want to leave my house. If it wasn't for the fact that I have a 'big girl job' I would probably call out sick so much more often. I stopped going to the gym because I couldn't imagine leaving the house with out make up. Now, I have somewhat of a more positive outlook. Even though I still have blemishes all over my skin, I try not to let it destroy me. Although I do have my days...

On to the spiro- I have been on it for a week now and so far so good. It is a diuretic by nature so I do make more frequent trips to the rest room. Various users on this site said to "drink water like it's going out of style" and yes - I agree. I am definitely more thirsty and blow through about 6-8 bottles of water at work alone. This doesn't really seem like a bad thing to me. I take it at 5:45 pm on the dot with a meal. Besides the frequent urination I have no other symptoms. This is my current routine.

AM: Wash with cetaphil, moisturize with CeraVe am w. spf 30, take my bc pill (Gildess Fe 1.5/30)
PM: wash with CeraVe (cetaphil doesnt take off makeup too well), mousturize with CeraVe mousturizing cream and I use AcZone gel topical (I am trying to prevent a super dramatic initial break out)

So far I do see some results. This is the week of my period and usually I have huge red flaming pimples all over my face but I only got two smaller ones on my jawline that are starting to disappear. Existing blemishes are not as RED as they were and are starting to lighten up, however they're still present. I did not expect to see much of a change as most people usually take a month or two to see anything. InstaSize_0405121447.thumb.jpg.dcdf98ca4

Hey there! So happy you are finding improvement from this medication!! I had a question, is there a reason you opted not to do another round of Accutane? Just curious!

Accutane worked, but it only worked for 5 years. It is my 'last resort'. When I was on it I got a lot of the side effects. Also, I am going through laser hair removal right now and I knew if I started Accutane I would have to stop those treatments. It was very inconvenient not to wax, to take extra extra care to avoid the sun and dealing with the very chapped lips. I avoid over-exposure to sunlight anyway but on accutane even a little bit of sun gave me a wicked sun burn all over. I live in Florida and with summer approaching it would just not be convenient lol. If spiro does not work I might consider going on accutane again though.

Okay, gotcha! Good luck with spiro and your journey :)
