Pre-Tane

Hi everyone. Not sure if anyone will read my blog/journey but I'm making it in hopes that some will and that I'll get some responses! I've done a lot of research on here as well and retained a lot of information from others on here so maybe some will get that from mine as well? No telling what will happen! Okay so some background... I'm 22 years old and I've had acne since middle school. So about 8/9 years. I've tried many things and although my acne isn't too terrible it's just enough to annoy me. I constantly have a couple really bad pimples and sometimes it's worse than that. Like I said it's just enough to annoy me especially since it's been like this for 8 years. I've tried many things that have only worked for a month and then it's back to square one. Thus leading me to trying Accutane as I've heard it works wonders. I went to my derm about a month and a half ago and he gave me some Tazorac in the meantime while my Accutane set up processes. The Tazorac definitely gave me a horrible IB that I'm still kind of going through so I hope that means I can skip the IB with Accutane. We'll see! I start in a few days and I'm excited yet nervous about the journey. Hope to hear from some people and possibly go through the journey together! Don't be afraid to talk, I usually don't bite. :)

I'm on day 6 now. This is my 3rd course, I'm 28 male, and I did two courses when I was around 22-23 yrs. It is important to eat high fat meals with your doses for optimal absorption. My derm prescribed me the new Absorica where there is fat right in the capsule and it absorbs like 80% better than generic Claravis, Amnesteem, and Sotret. So hoping this works well. But it's brand name so I needed prior auth from my insurance which my doctor luckily got for me, otherwise it's like $1,435 for a month worth lol, but I paid $35 with my insurance, and then down to $10 with a coupon my derm gave me. Ask me anything or check out my blog as well.

Thanks ControlPanel.

FavreErvaf oh wow you're on your 3rd course!? That sounds intense. Did the first two just not work or did your acne come back after a while? I hope this one works out better for you.

The first two courses completely cleared my skin, my skin looked great. After first course acne came back after 4 months. After second course it is coming back now after a few years. I don't believe I took it with enough fat. This time it didn't come back as bad, it's stayed away on my chest and back but my face was getting oily and bad again. And after seeing how perfect my skin was on the first two courses it is hard to take.

FavreErvaf I can totally understand the frustration with that! At least you know it works for a while. Did you have any negative side effects with any of your courses?

Not at all, just the expected extreme dryness. Lotions, eye drops, and nasal sprays and ointments are your best friend.
