Okay so since this is my first post ever on this website, I'll just start from the beginning. My apologies if its very long. Basically I started getting acne at the very end of 7th grade (also when I first got my period, I don't know if that had anything to do with it). It was very mild, but being the stupid child I was, I would pop them. That led to it getting worse and I had moderate acne. I tried to beat it with store bought general products. After that didn't do anything for about a year, my parents took me to a dermatologist. They believe everything the doctors say, where as I'm a little more skeptical, so that's why I kept putting it off. The doctor prescribed me minocycline to help with the inflammation and duac for the morning and night (although I had to combine the separate ingredients, benzoyl peroxide and clindamyin or something like that, by myself). So my routine was in the morning I would wash with my cetaphil cleanser, put on the duac, and then apply cetaphil moisturizing cream and then cetaphil oil control moisture with sunscreen. Then I would take one 50 mg pill of minocycline. My routine at night was to first remove my makeup (just bb cream and mascara) and then wash my face again with the cetaphil cleanser, put on the duac, and this time only apply the cetaphil moisturizing cream. Then I would take another 50 mg minocycline pill. It took around two months I think, but it worked. Apart from red marks and a few tiny white heads (I think thats what they are, they're like skin colored and super tiny bumps) on my lower cheek, I am clear. I've been on minocycline and only now started to learn about how you shouldn't really take antibiotics for acne. It's already been 6 months for me so I am out of luck now. Anyways my dermatologist now told me to start weening myself off of the minocycline, and with the stories I've read I am scared to death. This is the first time I've been clear and had confidence in months, I do not want to break out again and start all over. All I've read on this website is horror stories about coming off of the pill, but some people have had to have success after coming off the pill and they probably just don't post because they're clear so whats the point. Anyways I decided to make this blog, so I can track and see how my body responds to coming off the pill. This is day 1 of just taking one pill a day. My plan is to take one pill a day for 15 days (that's when my pill bottle ends) and then refill it one last time and take a pill every other day for 15 days and then a pill every 3 days for 15 days and then to finally come off of it. I'm also going to try to start taking probiotics, so I can start getting more good bacteria back into my system. Any other ideas of vitamins to take or a certain brand of probiotics? I want to at least try to tone down the break out to come or maybe even stop it completely. I'm also going to try cutting dairy out of my diet for 15 days to see if that has any good effects. Even though that will be really hard because I am a picky vegetarian, so cheese is basically my life )-: So if anyone has any tips for me or experiences stopping mino please leave your feedback down below. Also has anybody had any experience with retina a? My dermatologist wants me to start using it, but I feel as if the routine of how he wants me to do it will just break me out and using it in general will just break me out. Also if you were wondering my skin type is dry, but looks oily. Super weird I know, but I used to be so oily, until I started using duac and that made me really dry, but still manageable, so yeah if any body has any information or suggestions for me I could really use it.
