Okay so since this is my first post ever on this website, I'll just start from the beginning. My apologies if its very long. Basically I started getting acne at the very end of 7th grade (also when I first got my period, I don't know if that had anything to do with it). It was very mild, but being the stupid child I was, I would pop them. That led to it getting worse and I had moderate acne. I tried to beat it with store bought general products. After that didn't do anything for about a year, my parents took me to a dermatologist. They believe everything the doctors say, where as I'm a little more skeptical, so that's why I kept putting it off. The doctor prescribed me minocycline to help with the inflammation and duac for the morning and night (although I had to combine the separate ingredients, benzoyl peroxide and clindamyin or something like that, by myself). So my routine was in the morning I would wash with my cetaphil cleanser, put on the duac, and then apply cetaphil moisturizing cream and then cetaphil oil control moisture with sunscreen. Then I would take one 50 mg pill of minocycline. My routine at night was to first remove my makeup (just bb cream and mascara) and then wash my face again with the cetaphil cleanser, put on the duac, and this time only apply the cetaphil moisturizing cream. Then I would take another 50 mg minocycline pill. It took around two months I think, but it worked. Apart from red marks and a few tiny white heads (I think thats what they are, they're like skin colored and super tiny bumps) on my lower cheek, I am clear. I've been on minocycline and only now started to learn about how you shouldn't really take antibiotics for acne. It's already been 6 months for me so I am out of luck now. Anyways my dermatologist now told me to start weening myself off of the minocycline, and with the stories I've read I am scared to death. This is the first time I've been clear and had confidence in months, I do not want to break out again and start all over. All I've read on this website is horror stories about coming off of the pill, but some people have had to have success after coming off the pill and they probably just don't post because they're clear so whats the point. Anyways I decided to make this blog, so I can track and see how my body responds to coming off the pill. This is day 1 of just taking one pill a day. My plan is to take one pill a day for 15 days (that's when my pill bottle ends) and then refill it one last time and take a pill every other day for 15 days and then a pill every 3 days for 15 days and then to finally come off of it. I'm also going to try to start taking probiotics, so I can start getting more good bacteria back into my system. Any other ideas of vitamins to take or a certain brand of probiotics? I want to at least try to tone down the break out to come or maybe even stop it completely. I'm also going to try cutting dairy out of my diet for 15 days to see if that has any good effects. Even though that will be really hard because I am a picky vegetarian, so cheese is basically my life )-: So if anyone has any tips for me or experiences stopping mino please leave your feedback down below. Also has anybody had any experience with retina a? My dermatologist wants me to start using it, but I feel as if the routine of how he wants me to do it will just break me out and using it in general will just break me out. Also if you were wondering my skin type is dry, but looks oily. Super weird I know, but I used to be so oily, until I started using duac and that made me really dry, but still manageable, so yeah if any body has any information or suggestions for me I could really use it.

I think you would get more help if you posted this as a topic instead of a blog.

But YES! I was once on a stupid pill, Yeah it made my acne better, as long as I didn't masturbate. But it killed off my good bacteria and made my gut worse. My eyes turned yellow which was a very bad sign, so I had to get off it.

Anyways, I went natural a year ago and I'm clear today. I realized I had leaky gut and that random foods triggered my acne. These food include but not limited to: Cow Milk, Solid Cheese, Apples, Grapes, Cabbage, Most Dairy, Wheat in large amounts, and some other stuff I don't remember.

Good job going natural! Probiotics work for some, but I don't mess with them. They only work if you get the right kind from a trusted brand and all that. The most important thing is nutrition. This is what you need for your body to heal. If you need any help along the way, feel free to ask me. I'd love to help you out.

Oh yeah you're probably right but I'm kinda new to the website, so I didn't really know how to post it as a topic at first haha, but I think I'm going to go the natural way like you did. Should I just slowly cut out certain foods for a couple weeks and see if it makes a difference or not? And then if not go back to it?

Hi. Wen g off is a good idea! In regards to diet, I agree with Melloman that it may be worth looking into diet changes but don't go crazy. What works for one person may not work for you. Dairy seems to be a trigger for many so try cutting that out for a few months. If you don't see changes, you may want to try cutter out gluten as well. I have done retin a and you will purge so don't get discouraged. You may want to give that 3-4 months as well.

Thank you, I'm just concerned about using the retina a because I'm already doing so good on the duac, so do I really need to add the retina a? Do you know anyone who didn't have a crazy breakout from stopping antibiotics?

Hey there. I was on doxycycline on and off for a year and experienced what you did. I would clear up on it when I took it consistent, but when I'd try to wean myself off it, I'd break out. I was also using ziana and aczone. I finally went to my doctor and she blamed the birth control I was on so she switched me to a generic for ortho try cyclen. I also started using Dans BP with CeraVe products and it's been 7 weeks and I'm super happy w the results. I'll admit the first month was hard because I was adjusting with a new birth control AND off antibiotics. But if you give your body time to get used to the new routine it'll get better. Try seeing if it could also be your hormones. Also, I'm gluten free and rarely eat meat or drink alcohol and I think those have helped a lot. Good luck and check out my blog if you want more info or details about my experience.

That's great, I'm glad things are working out for you! This will be my first time trying to get off the antibiotics, so i'm hoping it goes well. My dermatologist kinda sucks, but he's the best in the area, so he's not really an option to tell me whats causing my acne. I do think it's hormones and just going through puberty, since I am a teenager. I really want to be done with all antibiotics, so unless my acne gets uncontrollable I don't want to take pills of any sort, and honestly I doubt my mom would let me get on birth control, but who knows.
