Day 2

glitznzits

Nothing too crazy happening yet. Woke up with a headache and two new tiny whiteheads, but I'm guessing both of those things are unrelated this early on. I'm still continuing with a less-intense version of my topical treatment until the dryness really kicks in (2% salicylic acid wash AM & PM, with Clarisonic at night followed by Atralin (tretinoin .5%).

Hey Glitz,

Just a recommendation based on my experience and general knowledge- salicylic acid should not be used along with tretinoin and is largely ineffective. You may be irritating your skin too much. Tretinoin works best when paired with a mild non-irritating soap like Cetaphil antibacterial bar or Purpose liquid or bar soap. Run it by your derm and see what she says. ;)

Thanks! I'm planning on switching to Purpose/Cerave when I start to get dry over the next few days/weeks. I know the salicylic acid washes don't do much but I've used it since I was about 12 so it's kind of a comfort thing...I just feel like I need something on my skin in the AM, you know? Thanks for the tip :)

Oh and my derm had initially prescribed a 10% glycolic 2% salicylic acid wash to use with tretinoin, she said they were fine to mix so long as it wasn't too irritating, though I've seen otherwise that you shouldn't mix them. Didn't seem to make a difference for me, it works moderately well with and without--I think they mostly say not to mix due to increased irritation, but my skin is pretty tough I guess
