Eighteen Months Later -- I Am Clear!

This is just an update - I have been clear for about a year, but I wanted to make an 18mo update as well. Still on the doxycycline and spironolactone, but these are for hidradenitis supparativa and PCOS respectively, not so much for acne. I have been off Retin-A for over a year.

I have had a few small breakouts lately, but this is because of sunblock and sun irritation, not really acne. I get a small bump every once in awhile, but not often. I currently have one blackhead and no active pimples. What you are seeing in recent photos is redness from pimples that healed recently. I do still scar sometimes. However, you can see how greatly my scars have improved!

Fantastic! I am so excited because I am on spiro too and although you may not be taking it for acne it does help! :)

Omg I want to get on spiro too before trying accutane, the doxy only doesn't seem to work.

My doctor told me that long term use of doxy is not good for you and that one of the visible side effects is skin discoloration... You've been on it for 18months???

If it were just for acne, I wouldn't be on it, but since I have an autoimmune disease that makes me have boils and awful cysts, the doxycycline helps. I wish I weren't on it so long-term, but I haven't had any side effects from it.

I have been on amoxicillin and cephalexin for 4 years with no side effects. These antibiotics also work really well at getting rid of cysts and pustules. My dermatologist has no problem keeping me on antibiotics long-term. I also recommend getting on some type of birth control pill while on spiro because I read a journal article that said spiro alone clears acne in 66% of women, that number rise to 88% when you add a birth control pill like Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Just a tip.;)

Sorry to hijack your post, girl lol

I've been on Ortho tri-Cycline ever since I started doxy and tazorac, which was 3 weeks ago. I'm surprised how some dermatologists make such a big deal about using antibiotics, I'm pretty sure they would have never let me take accutane if I had asked them, so switching was the wise choice.

Both of you girls look so pretty :)
