Epiduo Week 3,4,& 5 Update

At the start of week 3 my skin was looking a little bit better than it did when I first started Epiduo. By the 3rd day into week 3 all hell broke loose on my face. I think I finally got the bad part of the initial breakout. My whole face was covered in acne, a few pimples were cystic, and they took a while to come to a head. I had about 13 active pimples on my face in one day....they just appeared overnight. This made me really sad and I worried that it was not working. I wanted to give up, but I called my derm and she said it is normal for my face to get worse because it is pulling all the stuff out of my skin. I know I have to wait, but I was on retinoids up until a month and a half before I started Epiduo. I felt like crying but I decided I would stick through it and use it properly. My next appt isn't until I am at the end of week 9 so I decided to try and think positively about this treatment.

Into week 4 my skin started to clear up from the breakouts I had the previous week. My skin tone looked a little bit better but I was still breaking out everyday. Most of the dryness from the Epiduo is gone and my skin is self exfoliating less than it was. Almost all of the redness is gone as well.

Into week 5 is when I started to see the most improvenment in my skin. I am now finished with week 5 after tonight and so far my skin looks way better than it has ever looked since before I started Epiduo. My forehead is completely clear, my temples and the right side of my face are almost completely clear as well. The left side of my face is still broken out a good bit and the scarring is worse bc of the breakout before, but all in all my face looks way better. My blackheads are finally starting to go away...I can tell a big difference about them this week. It still burns a little bit when I put on the Epiduo but it goes away after 5-10 minutes.

I am not ready to go without makeup, but I can now use way less than I was originally using.

Skin Routine:

AM: Wash with Loreal Sensitive Skin Wash (I like foamy washes..haha),

Makeup: Covergirl Aquasmooth Foundation or Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation>> This one was recommended by my derm

I usually add a thin layer of Physcians Formula powder to set my makeup

PM: Equate makeup remover wipes, Wash with Loreal Sensitive Skin Wash, wait 20 min after shower to apply Epiduo

Add an antibiotic to get rid of the cheek breakouts. I recommend amoxicillin or cephalexin 500mg 3x a day. I am no dermatologist. I am only relaying what has worked for me. PEACE!

I can't take any oral meds because I have Ulcerative Colitis. No antibiotics, topical antibiotics, or birth control. So I can only stick with topical prescription meds that won't efftect my UC.

Hey! Is your face better than you started to use epiduo or is it better than the first weeks of epiduo? Because I use a retinoid and bp too and I'm not seeing good results (my face is the same -or maybe worse- than when I started to use them) And i'm using them since 6 weeks ago.

My skin has come a long way since those first weeks. My skin was horribly red (looked sunburnt) and dry to the point where I could hardly move my face after I took a shower. No my skin is still really dry and still a little red. My derm told me not to use a moisturizer but I see her again in 3 weeks (at the 9 wk mark actually) so I am gonna ask her if she will change her mind bc my skin is super dry at this point and it will hardly exfoliate any more. As far as breakouts I am still breaking out. I broke out a little more over the weekend in my temples and on my jaw near my chin, but my forehead is clear and the sides of my face on both sides are clear. I am actually giving this stuff 8 weeks and if the breakouts don't stop then I am going to ask my derm to give me something to go with the Epiduo. I will update this blog at the 8 wk mark to let people know if this stuff worked any. I will proably ask for aczone bc one of my close friends had to pair epiduo and aczone to together to clear his skin. All I can say is try to be positive right now even though that is hard as hell with dealing with acne. With Epiduo some ppl don't stop breaking out until the 9 wk mark or the 11th week so give it as much time as you can. If you have any more or just wanna vent about what your going through with this stuff you can just comment on here. I totally understand how it feels and what it feels like to keep this stuff bottled up inside. It can be very frustraiting and depressing at times. Hope this info helps or answers your question.
