Accutane Week 6

ACNE CHECK

This week I've been using Dan's BP at nighttime, with a 10% glycolic acid toner on top of my active pimples and worst areas of hyperpigmentation. This stings, and irritates the skin, but works like magic. During the day I use either a witchhazel toner, or gentle bp treatment (not Dan's) or gentle salicylic acid treatment...basically whatever I grab first.

So, keep in mind that these results are a combination of other topical treatments. So far, accutane has not been enough on it's own. My dermatologist reassured me at my last visit that after my course is over I will not be needing any other acne treatment.

My skin on my face is almost clear now. I only had a couple new large pimples this week, and I'm very happy with my skins progress!

My chest and shoulders are completely clear, but my back is not showing much improvement. On my back currently I have a dozen or so large, painful, stubborn red lumps that keep rising to the surface, among other smaller spots. It is uncomfortable to lean back against anything right now. These pimples are PAINFUL.

SYMPTOMS CHECK

-Eczema has now spread from my arms to my upper thighs/hips and I'm super itchy now.

-Much less frequent nose bleeds.

-My skin is slightly less dry on my face, and I actually have been blotting the oil off my nose a little. (Mind you, it's so subtle and takes hours for any oil to appear at all, this really doesn't concern me in the slightest)

-I've been using intense hair conditioner and so my scalp isn't as itchy and my hair isn't too dry unless I get lazy and skip the conditioner...then it feels like straw.

-Still back pain.

-Eyes get tired of contacts earlier in the evening.

Hey there :)

So just wanted to confirm, you are on accutane and use Benzoyl Peroxide AND Glycolic acid?

I though tthis was a big no no?

Im on my 3rd week of oratane (Australian accutane) and things have been up and down but have only been instructed to use gentle cleansers and moisterizers?

How bad was your acne?

Hey Guzzi33! :)

Yup, I'm on accutane, and use other topical treatments (like benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid.) But I use them sparingly, to the 'tougher' parts of my face. And I don't mix them unless I'm dotting on a spot treatment.

Untreated, my acne is severe. Treated with the Regimen and birth control, and an obsession over diet and skincare, my acne is moderate/occasionally mild.

I have pretty tough skin, it doesn't react badly to most things. It doesn't seem to be very irritated from the added products! But if you were considering this method, it's reaaaaallyyyyyy necessary to wear a good SPF either in a lotion or your makeup! I can't say I'm recommending it, because I'm sure it puts more stress on your skin. I just got impatient waiting for my skin to heal! I googled it first and I saw lots of people posting that they used topicals while on Accutane, so I guess the bottom line is, it's probably more stressful on your skin, but won't make your face fall off. :D

I'm on accutane too and have been using a very mild, gentle Olay toner just to spot-treat pimples. On healing red marks, I've just been using CeraVe moisturizer or the thick CeraVe moisturizing cream topped with a drop of jojoba oil. What do you use to get rid of red marks??

Hey hope2013, I found that glycolic acid works miracles on my hyperpigmentation. My FAVOURITE PRODUCT in the world is a gentle 10% glycolic acid toner by Dermaglow. I spot treat with this at night, over my patches of red marks (under moisturizer) and it's just a miracle worker. In one week the results were very dramatic and my skin has never looked better. It is expensive though, I paid 50$ for my bottle at Lawtons Drugstore (although it'll last for years) but for a cheaper option Dan has a glycolic acid product sold on this site.

I've used lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, baking soda scrubs, and various toners which I had great success with aswell, but on accutane my skin is too sensitive for these!
