A little background on myself and my skin...
I'm in my early 20's and I consider myself to have very hormonal acne. I was on and off birth control in high school, and never really noticed a change in my face (although I wasn't as obsessive with it at that time as I am now). Come my sophomore year in college, I was breaking out constantly and not on birth control. After going on Junel Fe 1/20, my skin cleared up considerably. It has remained clearer in the past 4 years, or at least more consistent. I tend to break out a week or so before my period, clear up during my period, and then it continues on like that, give or take the several pimples during normal times of the month.
I am very very adamant about washing my face.. the kind of person who doesn't even like to sleep out if it means that I won't be near my face wash. For a long time now I have been using Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit fash wash scrub-- the one with the little exfoliating beads in it. That seemed to be working OK, but my sister recommended African Black Soap which I started using about a week and a half ago. I have been liking the results, although the occasional pimple here and there is still normal to me, so I'm not sure how much this soap is really improving my skin (I haven't been using it long).
Just yesterday, after reading tons of reviews, I bought the Clarisonic Mia 2, which came with a sensitive brush head. I also purchased the delicate brush head, because I have read that this is the least invasive on your skin, and from all of the reviews I've read, I wanted to start out slow.
I used the Clarisonic last night with the delicate brush head and African Black Soap. You are only supposed to use it for a minute, but I got a little over excited and used it for 2 minutes. Afterward, as I was applying moisturizer, my skin felt very smooth but also very raw- almost like I had a bad sunburn. I attempted to put on an AHA gel, but it stung as though I was putting it into a cut, so I stopped.
I started researching why my skin felt so raw, and discovered that A) I shouldn't have used the clarisonic for double the time (START SLOW!!), and B) it probably isn't best to use it with African Black Soap, which is also an exfoliant. Because of these tips, I will not be using the Clarisonic again for a couple days (I think by starting slow, hopefully I will avoid a terrible purging phase, I want to ease my skin into it), and I also will only be using the clarisonic with the Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser (no exfoliating beads) that I purchased this morning. My new plan is to wash my face with African black soap in the morning, and use the Clarisonic with the Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser at night, after I have done an initial makeup removal cleanse.
To note-- I woke up this morning with two new zits on my forehead. Not sure if these are from the Clarisonic or what. Forehead zits definitely aren't new to me. Also to note-- I have always been relatively healthy (work out regularly but not the BEST eater, at all..), but about 2 months ago I started a relatively intense workout regimen, about 5 times a week, and have started eating much cleaner. Salads, fruit, much more water, much less dairy (which I think is bad for my skin in particular) and most importantly much much much less food that is bad for you and your skin... greasy fries, etc.
