New Derm=New Routine. Any Advice With Epiduo?

I am kind of bummed because I am on spring break from college right now. I am hiding in my apartment because of how bad my skin looks. I am too embarrased for my friends to see how bad my skin looks without makeup....so no pool time or beach time for me this spring break. :(

So I finally decided to go to a new dermatologist last Thursday. My last one kept prescribing me stuff that either dried my skin out too much, burned it or gave me a allergic reaction. I went through loads of prescription meds and over the counter face washes. My skin is so sensitive and dry that now the only thing I use is a gentle, sensitive skin face wash. Even non-medicated moisturizers burn my skin. http:////dn4iqhjvtt39e.cloudfront.net/messageboard//public/style_emoticons/default/huh.png

NEW DERM: My new derm told me stop using everything except my cleanser. She told me to stop using moisturizers because they don't prevent wrinkles and they just clog up my pores more. She also wants my skin to peel because she said my skin was dull and had lots of plugging. She said just to wash my face and then gently scrub them with my hands to make the skin "roll" off. Lol. She also prescribed me Epiduo and gave me little samples of it. I have been using it since Friday evening so I have not seen much of a difference yet (my forhead looks a little better).....I know this stuff takes time. I just started peeling/exfoliating last night and that helps my skin a lot so I am happy about that.

So far this is my routine:

AM: Wash with Loreal sensitive skin wash (It doesn't irritate my skin bc it is fragrance, soap, and oil free. I don't use the scrubby thing it comes with bc it is too harsh for my skin)

PM: Simple wipes to remove makeup, wash with Loreal sensitive skin wash, then gently exfoliate my face with my fingers.

If anyone has any advice on using Epiduo or what to expect please let me know. Thanks in advance! http:////dn4iqhjvtt39e.cloudfront.net/messageboard//public/style_emoticons/default/surprised.gif

I will try to keep this blog updated weekly or every few weeks or so to review my progress with Epiduo. I really hope this works! Trying to stay positive..even though sometimes it depresses me.

Epiduo should help a lot. I have used samples before with good results. I use tretinoin and benzaclin so essentially it is Ziana (tretinoin+clindamycin) and Epiduo all combined. Epiduo is a great drug and you should see results immediately, like within 2 weeks. I stopped using moisturizers two years ago and my skin has cleared greatly.

Thank you so much for your advice! That kind of calms me down a little. Lol. I am freaking out right now because my skin is a little red and I have broken out some since I have started using it. I understand that it has to bring everything to the surface and I haven't used a retinoid for about a month before I started Epiduo. By Thursday night I will be a week into Epiduo so hopefully I can see a little improvement. *fingers crossed* I am just lucky I am on spring break right now so I don't have to go anywhere where people can see me. Lol.

I remember my college days very fondly (I know I sound so old). I am 39 now. I finished my education at age 28. I earned a B.A. in History and a Juris Doctor in 2003. Since then I have taken a Spanish course for a refresher. Life moves fast and I hope you succeed in your future also. Peace.
