I Hope Someone Can Help!

Hi there, my name is Victoria and I am 24. I am hoping that someone can please give me some advice on my situation as I am becoming somewhat desperate. For about 2 years now I have been dealing with closed comedones on my face and upper back which is steadily getting worse. And im not talking about a clogged pore or two, I'm talking about thousands of tiny clogged, flesh colored bumps all over my face, which some become inflamed around the time of my menstrual cycle. Once inflamed I'm left with PIH for weeks! I have literally tried everything short of accutane to combat it and nothing is working. Before the age of 22 skin was always flawless! I am a registered nurse and i work for a dermatologist who keeps suggesting that I start accutane. I am currently trying to get preggo so this really isn't an option. I guess I'm asking if anyone knows of a definite cure for closed comedones, or at least ways to stop them from inflaming. I have tried BHA peels and they somewhat help. I'm kinda at the point where I might put a halt to pregnancy to try 6 Months of Accutane, but hubby doesn't really want me to. If everyone only understood how much this is affecting me emotionally!! Any suggestions are welcome!!

Have you ever used topical isotretinoin? Isotretinoin is the active principle of Accutane, but it's not a pill, it's gel.

It has not the same side effects of oral isotretinoin but it works likewise and it is used to cure comedonal acne too.

Ask your doctor to use topical isotretinoin (often called Isotrex).

Remember that , as Accutane, there could be an initial breakout and it could need time, like 3\4 months to see improvements.

If you have tried it yet, I reccomend you also Benzoyl Peroxide.

If they won't work, I reccomend you to use Accutane

Good luck!!

Hi Raf97, thanks for you reply, I have tried several different retinoids in the past for 4-6 months at a time, which did cause the closed comedones to inflame but they never really progressed from there. Just found the creams to be more irritating than anything, even when I would back down on use. Although I have never tried Isotrex specifically. I have definitely tried BPs for months, with really no improvement. I'm willing to try accutane if necessary, but this is a big decision on my part due to the fact that I would have to stop trying to conceive. And then even though I'm a RN working for a dermatologist who keeps telling me to just take the ACC for around 4 months and be done with it, I'm still so concerned with longterm effects! Obviously I trust the derm I work for, and she keeps saying that none of the rumors have been scientifically linked to Accutane. It's so strange how excited I get for my pts as I go through all the accutane ppwk with them, like I just know it's going to clear them and they will be just fine in the end. But when it comes to me I just can't trust the medication or my body. I just keep thinking it's going to ruin my life somehow. The whole idea just drains me mentally!!! Ughh anyway I'm going to continue trying to eat a clean diet with no dairy or high carbs to see if that makes a difference. I'll keep updating! Thanks again

Ok so I have been doing a lot of research and I am deciding to go completely gluten-free/dairy-free/no processed foods for about a month to see if it makes a difference. Yesterday was my first day on the totally clean diet and I actually enjoy eating that way. I also got prayed for so I believe In my heart that my acne is healed! I actually haven't gotten any new inflamed pimples. Plus I ordered a 15% salicylic acid peel which I did last night, and it really seemed to help smooth out some of the bumpies! Ill continue doing this VERRYYYY strict diet and weekly chem peels and keep updating over several weeks! Hope everyone has a blessed day!!!

Day three of super clean diet: I am about to start my menstrual cycle and normally by now I would be getting several inflamed comedones everyday, but I have noticed yesterday and today I haven't gotten any new spots and skin on forehead and around mouth actually looks clearer! All the old spots I had have really dried up and are at that peeling/scab stage which the chem peel I did the other night prolly had a lot to do with it. Also A LOT LESS closed comedones around mouth which was super clogged before the at home chem peel that I did. I am also cleansing with paulas choice acne system. I take 1000mg vitC in the AM an PM along with 4 pills of juice plus in th AM and PM. I know god is giving me the stregnth and knowledge to clean up my skin! I know god has healed me! I continue to pray and claim improvements each day!!!

Ok day 5 of super clean diet: I did cheat just a tiny tiny bit and had a little bread. But not much at all, besides that my diet has almost strictly been clean fruit and veggies with non processed/fresh seafood or fresh chicken. I stay away from the bean family as these are hard on digestive system and supposedly not good for acne. I know I am healed just waiting for the old spots to completely resolve! Giving God the praise for a healing everyday! Everyone have a blessed day!

Diet still the same. Lets just say today was not a good day for me. Hubby keeps saying that it's not that bad, and that some ppl have cancer etc and I get that but I am still affected by my moderate acne though I do believe I am healed! Anyway I'm going to bed, church in the morning. I need Jesus at this point!!!

I am literally watching my skin heal by the day!! Oh there is power in prayer! I know I am healed. I told the MD that I work for that I was being prayed for and she kind of laughed it off, but I know God can heal something as small as acne. I'm continuing the diet and ill keep posting! Good luck to all!

Diet is still going good. I cheat a little here and there but I'm still mainly eating organic veggies and seafood. No dairy/ sweet products at all! Ahhhhhh can a girl just get a cookie around here!!!! Oh well I'm watching my skin clear so I guess it's worth it! Also have been exercising. Nothing crazy since I really don't have much weight to lose but still some cardio to reduce stress, we shall see if all this helps!

Ok so hubby and I just had a come to Jesus meeting! I literally just broke down and told him trough tears that I can no longer deal with this! Although I feel incredibly blessed that I am only dealing with acne and not some fatal disease, it is really starting to take an emotional toll. Up until recently I was still able to enjoy social functions, but now when at dinner with friends I find myself trying to sit at the least lit area of the table and I avoid direct lighting. I am extremely self conscious of outdoor social gatherings and I have noticed that I have started coming up with excuses to decline invites. My hubby and I decided that accutane is probably the right choice for me. I will discuss it with my dermatologist on Monday and move forward with the sign up process. I feel incredibly defeated right now, but I am trusting in God that he gives people the knowledge to invent these curative drugs. I feel blessed to know that there is at least an end to the fight! Any prayers and encouraging words would be GREATLY appreciated! Praying for everyone out there! Wow how emotionally draining is all of this! God bless!!
