Hi everyone, so I'm an 18 year old man with acne and I'm going to share my acne experience. I've had acne since I was around 13 years old. During high school I had mild acne. I generally controlled that using over the counter products like clean and clear, neutrogena and proactiv cleansers, toners and moisturisers. However, recently since I finished high school my skin has gotten worse. I've now had moderate acne for the last few months around my chin area, the worst area, so hard to eat and talk, all you can feel is the lumps of bacteria and pus making its way through your skin, awful. I've been using proactiv for around 4 years. I've taken breaks from it, but my acne always comes back worse. I've also been on zinc tablets for the last few years, not entirely sure if that's made any difference, but going to continue using them anyway. Over the past few months my skin started to get unbearable and my self confidence was taking a turn for the worst. So, I went and visited my doctor and explained my situation. Surprisingly to me, without much apprehension he discussed two options to treat my moderate chin acne. The 1st to use epiduo topical cream and the 2nd to take the antibiotic doxycycline. I decided to try the doxycycline and gave it just under a month. It was upsetting for me as there was no effect at all, my skin just became worse and worse, so I went back to my doctor and he prescribed me to use epiduo as well as taking doxycycine. I have no been on doxycycline for just over 6 weeks as well as epiduo for just under 3 weeks. I have so far noticed a slight improvement after starting the epiduo. However my skin has become incredibly irritated and sore. It peels off everyday and looks very red and scaly. I have started using a moisturiser to help keep the dryness under control. My doctor told me to use the epiduo for 4 weeks and report back to him if no improvements. If my skin keeps improving, even if it's slow I think I shall wait. My doctor also told me to take 12 weeks of doxycycline then report back to him, where if there's improvements I will stop the treatment and see how my skin goes, or if it has not improved more find another treatment.
