I'm about to start my 3rd (yes, 3rd) round of Accutane. This time, I am determined to document my experience and results. Before I begin, let me tell you about my long, tired journey with acne...

I am a 27 year old female who has been dealing with acne since age 15. If I were to tell most people that I am about to start a 3rd course of Accutane, they would probably look at me like I'm crazy. In the past 12 years that I've been dealing with this, my acne has gone from moderate and persistent, to mild and persistent, to even milder, but still persistent. So right now, my skin probably looks "normal" or even "good" to most people, but not to me. My first 2 rounds of Accutane gave me perfectly clear, perfectly smooth skin. All I had to do was wash my face and moisturize--that was it! I didn't spend hours in front of the mirror examining my face before going to bed; I didn't avoid looking at my face when washing my hands in the restroom for fear of cringing at seeing the bumpy, clogged pores around my mouth; I didn't spend every minute of my day wondering how imperfect my complexion looked; I didn't worry about what others were thinking when they looked at my face. I even left the house without make-up on more frequently than with make-up on! It sounds ridiculous--especially considering how mild my condition is compared to most people who deal with acne--but the condition of my skin highly impacts my quality of life.

So...here I am. I can't wait to start and get back to feeling confident in my own skin again!


Thanks for the comment! I have actually recently tried the non-dairy diet, although I cheat just a little bit. I've never been a milk drinker, anyway, but I do love yogurt and cheese, so I've given both of those up with the exception of having *a little* cheese every once in a while. It's been about a month, and it hasn't seemed to make a difference...

Not trying to lecture you but you should really look at your liver. Those kinds of drugs take a toll on your liver function. Even if it looks good now (I'm assuming your liver is being monitored) you should invest in teas and supplements to help your liver such as milk thistle or dandelion root.

I understand. Honestly, I've done it twice and come out fine. It's worth it to me to not deal with the stress of my skin. I do know about some supplements that cleanse the liver. Thanks for your concern!
