Hello. Welcome to my blog! I have had a long journey in which I have tried to find perfect skin. I though I found the answer but (spoilers) I did not. Here's a little bit of a backstory for you.

I had my first pimple when I was 7. I knew what it was, I am the youngest of a large pool of cousins so I had spent a fair amount of time questioning them on the bumps on their faces. It went away and I didn't really see another one until I was about ten. Then they started to show up in pairs, clusters, until I had full blown "acne". I dealt with it. It didn't bother me too much given everyone was dealing with the same, seemingly temporary problem. It wasn't until everyone's faces began to clear that I realized we had a problem.

I didn't have body acne, something I was very thankful for. However, the amount of acne concentrated on my face (and scalp) was painful to see and feel. I had tried everything under the sun to get rid of it. Topical ointments, anti-biotics, washes and creams galore but nothing would sooth my enraged skin. I had seen multiple dermatologists but they all just pushed the same prescriptions my way. Some of it would work for a week or two, but then my skin would adjust and the little red, black, and white monsters would come back with vengeance. I had conceded to the idea I would just have to wait it out. Hopefully, in a few years, I would outgrow it.

When I was a few months shy of sixteen, I woke up one morning unable to open my right eye. A cystic pimple had formed just underneath it over night, and grown so large the my eye was swollen shut. I remember crying thinking I would have to go to school like that and deal with the already horrible teasing I got for my wretched skin. Fortunately, my mom understood there was no way I could attend high school in my current state so instead, we drove to the doctors with a plan.

My mom had already been reading about Accutane online for a while. She knew the side effects and we talked about them at great lengths. Having already been put on birth control to tame my skin (to no avail), we knew I more than qualified for the drug. It took a little convincing since Accutane isn't a simple medication for the prescriber or prescribee. However, I was placed on it.

I am going to spare you the details of those 6 moths. It wasn't a cake walk, let me assure you. It sucked. Dry skin, monthly visits for blood work, stupid online surveys.. Not at all fun. BUT THEN MY SKIN WAS CLEAR. Not just acne free but CLEAR. CLEAR as in I got compliments on it. CLEAR as in I didn't have any blemish whatsoever. CLEAR CLEAR BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAR.

I finished high school, graduated, and started college. All the while with perfect skin. About halfway through my freshman year of university, I had a breakout. It was annoying but I didn't think anything of it. College is stressful. But the breakouts kept coming. suddenly, there was no "breakout" but just one constant bout of bad skin. Everything I had gone through was for not. My shit skin was back and it wasn't going anywhere.

So, here I am a year later still dealing with this terrible affliction. For those of you with acne, you know it isn't just something you can cover with makeup. It hurts. It's embarrassing. It makes you feel terrible and there is very little you can do about it.

So, for this blog, I will be journaling my quest for clear skin. Having had it, life really sucks without it.

Skinceuticals: Basic Acne Kit

-Gel cleanser

-This oil think that you put on your face. I don't know what it is called and I'm too lazy to check.

My cousin is an Esthetician and she suggested I try this kit. It runs about $100 for the three piece set but you can find it on Amazon for a bit cheaper. I ordered it on the 15th and received it in the mail yesterday. It's a bit soon to tell how it's working and I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to acne products so I will refrain from speculating. I really hope it does! Ahg!! I need it to so badly. Stay tuned.
