Swimming And Back Acne?

I must confess, in my 30's I didn't think I would be writing about back acne or scars or anything related to it. I was told that this was just a teenage thing, I should be over these little bumps on my back long before I turn 20, 21 max. Well, turns out for some of us, that is really not true.

I was twelve when I first noticed small white heads on my forehead and a few on my upper back. The first few years were not that bad, it rarely affected my life or my self esteem, somewhere in my late teens, when I started college, the same time I broke up with my boyfriend is when things started getting out of control. My face just went crazy with big cystic acne all over my forehead, thankfully not much on the rest of my face. My back got the worst of it, it was all over starting from my shoulders all the way to my lower back, just everywhere…. those were really sad times in my life when it comes to self esteem…., one good thing though, I ended up focusing on my studies more and got through college with good grades haha..

In my early/mid twenties, I sort of got my face semi-clear using over the counter medications, usually 10% BP, but my skin just never looked as good as I would like it to be. I met my wonderful husband at 23, bless his heart, he made me forget that I had any issues with my skin to begin with, I pray that all you young ladies out there will find someone out there who will make you feel the same way. I am now a proud wife and a mama to two beautiful daughters whom I pray got their father's genes when it comes to their skin, his skin is flawless…

Recently, I have finally managed to keep my face clear/mostly clear for the most part. Below is what I use;

Mornings: wash face with dove bar soap, apply 2 drops of acne.org's Jojoba oil, then apply acne.org's AHA 10% wait for it to dry then apply acne.org's 2.5% BP. For makeup, I apply smashbox's bb cream, love this product, covers for a natural looking finish and has SPF 30!

Evenings: wash face with dove bar soap, apply 2 to 4 drops of Emu oil wait 5 minutes and apply pea sized tretenion cream (0.05%).

this has kept my face pretty much clear or at least clear enough for me that I have stopped obsessing about it.

My back acne has subsided a lot, I don't use any medication on it and I do get some flare ups once in a while, I however, have tons of leftover scars from all those years of acne that I doubt will ever go away. I am at a point in my life where I have stopped worrying about back acne or scars, at least most of the time, except when I have to or want to go swimming that is, or when I see a dress that I just love love, but can't wear because it shows my bare back… just so annoying isn't it?

I am tired of missing out on swimming with my daughters at the beach or community pools because I somehow forgot to pack my ugly looking rash guard that looks like a t-shirt and I can't just borrow a "normal" swimsuit from a friend or just buy one from a nearby store because none of the "normal" swimsuits cover the BACK!! why is that????

I finally decided to get a few custom made swimsuit that is my style but with back coverage…I am actually very excited about this. I know there are many of us that are struggling with this issue and I am starting this blog to kind of get together and chat…and get feedback from you guys regarding possibly creating a swimsuit line that is specifically tailored to us. I don't have any fashion design back ground, but I always say, where there is a will there is a way.. or something like that right? I honestly feel like we need more options than just wearing these ugly looking rash guards… don't you agree?

I will post pictures of how my custom made swimsuits turn out. Stay tuned…. I would like to hear what you guys experience has been in this issue, if anything, just to make me feel like I am not the only one out there with this problem.

Yours truly,

Mindful me

I think this is great.

:) I too have missed out on a lot of pool/beach days bc there arent any swim suits that would cover my upper back. I dont mind my stretch marks but my acne scars really bother me :(
