The Start Of My Accutane Journey

Hello everyone,

I just receieved word from my Dermatologist that I can't start Accuatne on Nov. 21st. Words cannot describe how excited I am to begin.

I've always had the occasional breakouts, I'd say they started at age 15-16. This past summer my skin cleared up completely, not one new breakout for weeks. I was so happy I thought I had finally gotten rid of the problem. Unfortunately, around late August my skin erupted! I had never seen anything like it, I started getting large painful cysts. I would wake up with 2-3 new ones a day. I was a mess. I went to the dermatologist and he put me on Doxycycline 200mg a day and gave me Aczone as a topical. It didn't help, my face was aching, itchy, red, it was horrible. He said I should consider going on accutane, right away I said yes because I've seen many friends get great results from this medication. I've been going back every week for Cortisone shots (works wonders) until I am able to start on the accutane.

I'm basically starting this blog just to track my progress and share my story with people who can relate. Please feel free to comment any tips and advise that you may have:)

P.S. I am staying anonymous for now because I cannot bare to share my face with the world. Once I start seeing results I will be sure to share pictures:-)

Hi! We are so so similar! I'm starting Accutane November 25th. I have been on Doxycycline and Aczone previous to this and had little success with it. I'm so excited to have clear beautiful skin. The journey will be rough, but it'll totally be worth it. I'm going to be right there with you, so if you ever need to talk, I'm here!

I don't know if Canada is different but I got my derm appointment Tuesday, bloodwork on Wednesday and started my 2nd course on Friday. Is there a reason you have to wait?

Btw, how old are you? Is your acne node/cystic?
