Honey Mask

Last night I tried a honey mask for the first time. A friend of mine has their own bee hives and harvested a large jar to give to us- You can't get more organic then that!

So I decided to try just doing straight honey on my face. It was interesting- First off it felt like I was applying glue to my face. As I waited... and my skin began to warm the honey I felt it 'moving' - In other words, dripping downward. So I had to be watchful with it and my initial desire to leave it on for 30 minutes dwindled down to 10 minutes.

If anyone is going to do a honey mask make sure to schedule it before your shower... it was very easy to take off and I mainly just allowed the water to pour over my face and do all the work.

Afterwards... I didn't really feel a huge change... Mentally I knew it was good for me but there was no 'wow factor when I stepped out of the shower or woke this morning. Does anyone do these on a regular basis?

But I will be mixing it up and adding other natural ingredients...

These are two that I found online: Honey Face Mask for Acne-Prone Skin

  • 3 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    • 2 teaspoons raw honey
    • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Well I figured I will apply it 2 to 3 times a week and see if at that point I notice a benefit - Either was it is a good excuse to relax for a good 30 minutes =)

I use manuka honey and cinnamon and keep it on for about an hour. I like it but it can get messy with the dripping. I fee like it helps with healing spots that have been popped and with redness, I also like to put it on my lips. I think I'm gonna it with the lemon next time though.

I stand corrected: there is better honey then just organic! :)

@Tim714 - I think I will try the cinnamon next- how often do you do these per week? An hour long mask with this! My hat is off to you... Hmmm, maybe relaxing in a bath would make it easier with the dripping but even then i think i'd still only be able to keep it on for 30min. Glad to hear you get great results with it- i will keep it up then :) Thank you for the info!

In the past I switched my face wash for honey. I used to wash my face with manuka honey in the morning and evening, and do a face mask every so often. The first time I started doing this is definatley calmed my skin and helped my breakouts. It is a bit strange at first washing your face with honey, but I read really good things about it :)

No problem :) at this point I do it about twice a week and just try to wear a shirt I don't care about because at least one drip always makes it off. When I first started doing it which was probably about six weeks ago, it was everyday but that was a pain and pretty expensive. I'm also almost halfway through a course of accutane and getting good results from that now but I'll probably start doing it just once a week pretty soon.

@Tim714 - I opted for the shirt idea and it worked like a charm!

@miss088 I have noticed it does seem to calm my skin :)

i too have tried it, but only twice so far. I get really dry skin this time of year which exasperates my acne.

So far it's sticky and fun, but slow going. you're right...no "wow" factor. but i have noticed a difference in healing and i was less dry after day 2. i'll try again.. maybe everyother day or 3 times a week.

How does the cinnamon help?
