Day 1

The day is finally here that I get to go to the dermatologist. (Takes forever to get an appointment). A bit about me:

-22 year old female

-Recent College Graduate

I've had acne since I was 11 or 12 and my skin has never been great since. In my younger teens I just broke out on my forehead, mid-teens I just broke out on my cheek. Now, at 22, I'm experiencing painful cystic jaw acne. It's not the end of the world, but it's ugly and painful and as you can assume, it's embarrassing. I've largely used over the counter face washes to keep my acne under control, but this new neck acne is terrible and just continues to spread. I've never taken any oral medications for acne, and I used a few prescription face washes around age 18, but never kept it up. Now I'm serious about getting treatment for acne because I've never experienced anything this terrible before. Up until this summer I had never had a breakout on my neck. Starting in September it got really terrible and then in October the left side of my neck broke out too.

I went to my regular doctor a month ago because I was really concerned at how rapidly the acne was spreading and couldn't get in to see my dermatologist for another month. She prescribed Alesse birth control pills (I received generic Avianne) although I have not started taking them yet... was planning to start when I get my next period in early November. Going to the dermatologist today so I'll get her opinion on the birth control pills, and hopefully leave with a new treatment plan.
