Claravis (Accutane)

Okay I am still trying to figure out this site so bare with me lol... anyways, I am a 26 year old female and have been suffering from mild-moderate (hormonal) acne since I was a tennager.. My break outs are around my mouth and sometimes I will get a few on my cheeks, but mostly around my mouth.. I started 10mg, once daily, of claravis in September, I was not seeing any results, only side effects were that my lips were dry and the corners were cracking. I went back to the dermatologist to do my monthly visit and she put me on 30mg once daily Again I was seeing no results, if anything my skin was/has gotten worse... I am soo upset and frustrated. I have tried ever topical cream under the sun and also various anti biotics.. Nothing would work. I went back to the doctor on Thursday and she is having me take 30 mg twice daily now, I started that on Friday... I don't see a big difference yet, maybe a tiny bit, how long does it take to start seeing results? I really need some feedback to get myself motivated! I am soooo discouraged :(

Thanks smile.png

Hey! I'm a 28 year old female with a similar background.... I only get breakouts around my chin/mouth and have tried EVERYTHING except for accutane. My dermatologist kept trying to get me on it after antibiotics and topical creams didn't work. I went to see my primary care doctor and she thinks my breakouts are related to hormone fluctuations, based on when I get them (every month when I PMS or when I'm stressed) and because they tend to be cystic. I just started on spironolactone, which helps block testosterone receptors (if you google it you will see a bajillion descriptions smile.png). I'm taking 100mg/day, one pill in the morning and one pill at night, and so far I've seen awesome results. I'm only about 20 days in, and they say it takes a full 3 months to fully kick in, but I'm already noticing a huge difference unlike anything else I've been on. I would really recommend doing some research on it and seeing if it's an option for you. My best friend has been on it for 4+ years and has the most amazing skin, I can't believe I waited this long to try it after having skin issues since I was in high school!!! Good luck, and try not to get too discouraged. It totally sucks but hopefully you'll find something that works for you smile.png (also, I'm new to site and after reading lots of other posts, I decided to document my spironolactone treatment in a blog, hoping that it would help other people if it's something they want to try, so let me know if you have any questions about it. hang in there!!)
