Hi there, I just turned 26 yesterday and my face is out of control with acne STILL! I have decided that it doesn't matter whether or not I go out with or without makeup, except for work just because I am required to wear makeup. Anyway, I am about two weeks away to my dermatologist appointment, where I will be prescribed Accutane if my blood works shows that I am not pregnant. It sucks that girls have to wait an entire month to get the process going! My derm. gave me a bunch of samples of Aczone and Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin. I have been using those treatments for the past two weeks every day and I must say it hasn't done ANYTHING for my skin. My skin might look even worse, but I don't know because everyday its all the same...PIMPLES EVERYWHERE!!!

Well, a little about my skin... I have had acne since I was 15 and was prescribed everything but Accutane. It never went away until I turned 20. My skin was so clear and beautiful!! Even when I was out drinking and partying. I was definitely not on a healthy diet or anything, which leads me to believe diet doesn't have anything to do with the kind of acne I am struggling with. When I turned 22, I went on BC again, but not the usually OTC. I was prescribed Loestrin and thats when my beautiful, clear skin exploded with cystic acne, pimples, pustules, etc causing ice pick scarring and shallow pitting scarring. I stopped taking the Loestrin after a few months, because I couldn't take it anymore. I switched OTC, which did nothing. I am now on YAZ, which isn't any better, but I need to be on a BC. I have had waves of "clear" skin, but never how it was before. I have decided to go on Accutane without any insurance and I am prepared to pay an extreme amount of money, but it's okay because I just want to look in the mirrow and not want to vomit from disgust. UGH! Sorry for the long sob story, but one I start Accutane, I will post weekly about my progess. :)

My acne was so severe and so painful. I had bloody puss filled oozing sores all along my mouth and chin. My cheeks had protruding cystic nodules. when I washed my face, it felt like gravel with all the pimples and scabs.Fortunately I went back to my old dermatologist and she prescribed Amoxil. Boom, my face was clear after about 14 days or so. The existing pimples had to heal and resolve and the new pimples were prevented internally by the amoxicillin. My complexion now appears normal. Very little scarring. The scars I do have are slowly fading away over the years. btw omg, doesnt your state have public health care like medicaid? Your tax dollars have funded the program in the past. Use it when you need it; which is now. I have been out of work since 2010 since my law office was forced to close and I got Medical assistance in Minnesota. Don't they have that where you live? Please promise me you'll look into it. There is also low-cost state insurance where you pay a premium based on your income. The upper income limit is $55,000.00 per year. You need coverage at all times. What if you get into a biking accident or need your vaccinations up to date.

Freemimo, we may be starting at the same time! My derm appt is Oct 15th and she'll let me know if my blood work is clear for accutane- had to stop my course in November for health reasons so......If i do go on it, i would love to keep corresponding with you comparing notes and such. You do know that you have the right to choose abstenance as a birth control option - i did and for went the birth control which can create problems on its own. Good luck with the wait, i am anxious as well. Will be checking back in with your blog periodically.

Sasch83, my appt is Oct 16th!!! I'm glad we found eachother, so we can share our experiences during this bittersweet adventure. My acne is actually under control right now. only about 6-10 active spots and my cystic acne that usually rules my jawline has subsided. I'm really nervous about the Initial Breakout everyone seems to experience. I have been doing a lot of research on what kind of products use during the course, for nosebleeds, dry skin, chapped lips, etc. Do you have any suggestions? How long were you on your course for until you had to stop? How was your experience?
