Excited About Spironolactone...

Before you think Spironolactone has done all the work I should remind folks that I also use generous amounts of topical clindamycin 1% gel, topical tretinoin .1% cream and 1,000mg of Amoxil daily. That said, the addition of Spironolactone seems to have the effect of shrinking blemishes quickly, overnight even. I guess the spironolactone dampens oil production enough to cut out the food source for the acne causing bacteria. I asked my dermatologist for an increased dose of the spironolactone but she is out until July 10th. I wonder what she will think of my request. I am now on 50mg of spironolactone daily. I read some blogs and women were taking 100mg and even 200mg with great success. I really want clear skin. My skin is smooth right now. It feels so good and so smooth when I wash it. But like I said, I fight acne on every front! pills, creams, even anti-bacterial soap and only oil free moisturizer when I need it, which I do when I go for a bike ride. I also want to go on Accutane but I have no Idea how the dermatologist I see will react??!! Once again my advice to you all is never accept acne as your fate. Bacteria can colonize your face, neck, back and chest if you don't demand high doses of highly effective anti-biotics. Also, dont discount retinoids like differin, epiduo, or Retin-A. They dont do all the work but when used in combination with topical antibiotics the work wonders. Always take an oral anti-biotic like Amoxil or Keflex; they are very low on side effects and work wonders on stubborn infestations. I literally had over 50 cysts on my face two years ago, today I have zero due to amoxil. I insist that my dermatologist get my skin clear and she does!! Try to find a dermatologist that puts you on combinations of drugs...just one wont work...
